Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
4 Surely, he hath born our infirmities, and carried [a]our sorrows, yet we did judge him as [b]plagued and smitten of God, and humbled.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions: he was broken for our iniquities: the [c]chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes are we healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray: we have turned every one to his own way, and the Lord hath laid upon him the [d]iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet did he not [e]open his mouth: he is brought as a sheep to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearer is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.
8 He was taken out from [f]prison, and from judgment: [g]and who shall declare his age? for he was cut out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he plagued.
9 [h]And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no wickedness, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet the Lord would break him and make him subject to infirmities: when [i]he shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed and shall prolong his days, and the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the [j]travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied; by his knowledge shall my [k]righteous servant justify many: for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I give him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because [l]he hath poured out his soul unto death; and he was counted with the transgressors, and he bare the sin [m]of many, and prayed for the trespassers.
9 For thou hast said, The Lord is mine hope: thou hast set the most High for thy refuge.
10 There shall none evil come unto thee, neither shall any plague come near thy tabernacle.
11 [a]For he shall give his Angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee in their hands, that thou hurt not thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt walk upon the lion and asp: the [b]young lion, and the dragon shalt thou tread under feet.
14 [c]Because he hath loved me, therefore will I deliver him: I will exalt him because he hath known my Name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will hear him: I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and glorify him.
16 With [d]long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.
5 1 First he showeth the duty of the high Priest: 5 Secondly, that Christ is appointed of God to be our high Priest, 7 and that he hath fulfilled all things belonging thereunto.
1 For [a]every high Priest is taken from among men, and is ordained for men, in things pertaining to God, [b]that he may offer both [c]gifts and [d]sacrifices for sins.
2 Which is [e]able sufficiently to have compassion [f]on them that are ignorant, and that are out of the way, because that he also is [g]compassed with infirmity,
3 And for the same sake he is bound to offer for sins, as well for his own part, as for the peoples.
4 (A)[h]And no man taketh this honor unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
5 So likewise Christ took not to himself this honor to be made the high Priest, but he that said unto him, (B)Thou art my son, this day begat I thee, gave it him.
6 As he also in another place speaketh, (C)Thou art a Priest forever, after the [i]order of Melchizedek,
7 [j]Who in the [k]days of his flesh did offer up prayers and supplications, with strong crying and tears unto him, that was able to [l]save him from death, and was also heard in that which he feared.
8 And though he were the Son, yet [m]learned he obedience, by the things which he suffered.
9 [n]And being [o]consecrated, was made the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him:
10 And is called of God an high Priest after the order of Melchizedek.
35 ¶ (A)[a]Then James and John the sons of Zebedee came unto him, saying, Master, [b]we would that thou shouldest do for us that we desire.
36 And he said unto them, What would ye I should do for you?
37 And they said to him, Grant unto us, that we may sit, one at thy right hand, and the other at thy left hand in thy glory.
38 But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask. Can ye drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and be baptized with the baptism that I shall be baptized with?
39 And they said unto him, We can. But Jesus said unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of the cup that I shall drink of, and be baptized with the baptism wherewith I shall be baptized:
40 But to sit at my right hand and at my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.
41 And when the ten heard that, they began to disdain at James and John.
42 [c]But Jesus called them unto him, and said to them, (B)Ye know that [d]they which are princes among the Gentiles, have domination over them, and they that be great among them, exercise authority over them.
43 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your servant.
44 And whosoever will be chief of you, shall be the servant of all.
45 For even the Son of man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life for the ransom of many.
