Psalm 139:1-18

139 1 David cleanseth his heart from all hypocrisy, showeth that there is nothing so hid, which God seeth not. 13 Which he confirmeth by the creation of man. 14 After declaring his zeal and fear of God, he professeth to be enemy to all them that contemn God.

To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.

O Lord, thou hast tried me, and known me.

Thou knowest my [a]sitting and my rising: thou understandest my thought afar off.

Thou [b]compassest my paths, and my lying down, and art accustomed to all my ways.

For there is not a word in my [c]tongue, but lo, thou knowest it wholly, O Lord.

Thou holdest me strait behind and before, and layest thine [d]hand upon me.

Thy knowledge is too wonderful for me: it is so high that I cannot attain unto it.

Whither shall I go from thy [e]Spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I lie down in hell, thou art there.

Let me take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea:

10 Yet thither shall thine hand [f]lead me, and thy right hand hold me.

11 If I say, Yet the darkness shall hide me, even the night shall be [g]light about me.

12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee: but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and light are both alike.

13 For thou hast [h]possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.

14 I will praise thee, for I am [i]fearfully and wondrously made: marvelous are thy works, and my soul knoweth it well.

15 My bones are not hid from thee, though I was made in a secret place, and fashioned [j]beneath in the earth.

16 Thine eyes did see me, when I was without form: [k]for in thy book were all things written, which in continuance were fashioned, when there was none of them before.

17 How [l]dear therefore are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!

18 If I should count them, they are more than the sand: when I awake, [m]I am still with thee.

2 Kings 11:21-12:16

21 Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.

12 6 Jehoash maketh provision for the repairing of the Temple. 16 He slayeth the king of Syria by a present from coming against Jerusalem. 20 He is killed by two of his servants.

In (A)the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign, and reigned forty years in Jerusalem, and his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba.

And Jehoash did that which was good in the sight of the Lord all his time that [a]Jehoiada the Priest taught him.

But [b]the high places were not taken away: for the people offered yet and burnt incense in the high places.

¶ And Jehoash said to the Priests, All the silver of dedicated things that be brought to the house of the Lord, that is, the money of them that are under the [c]count, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that one offereth willingly, and bringeth into the house of the Lord,

Let the Priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and they shall repair the [d]broken places of the house, wheresoever any decay is found.

¶ Yet in the three and twentieth year of King Jehoash the Priests had not mended that which was decayed in the Temple.

Then King Jehoash called for Jehoiada the Priest, and the other Priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the ruins of the Temple? now therefore [e]receive no more money of your acquaintance, except ye deliver it to repair the ruins of the Temple.

So the Priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the decayed places of the Temple.

Then Jehoiada the Priest took a chest and bored an hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the [f]right side, as every man cometh into the Temple of the Lord. And the Priests that kept the [g]door, put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the Lord.

10 And when they saw there was much money in the chest, the king’s Secretary came up and the high Priest, and put it up after that they had told the money that was found in the house of the Lord,

11 And they gave the money made ready into the hands of them, [h]that undertook the work, and that had the oversight of the house of the Lord: and they paid it out to the carpenters and builders that wrought upon the house of the Lord,

12 And to the masons and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewed stone, to repair that was decayed in the house of the Lord, and for all that which was laid out for the reparation of the Temple.

13 Howbeit there was [i]not made for the house of the Lord bowls of silver, instruments of music, basins, trumpets, nor any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver of the money that was brought into the house of the Lord.

14 But they gave it to the workmen, which repaired therewith the house of the Lord.

15 Moreover, they reckoned not with the men, into whose hands they delivered that money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.

16 The money of the trespass offering, and the money of the sin offerings was not brought into the house of the Lord: for it was the Priests’.

James 5:1-6

1 He threateneth the rich with God’s severe judgment, for their pride, 7 that the poor hearing the miserable end of the rich, 8 may patiently bear afflictions, 11 as Job did, 14 even in their distresses.

Go [a]to now, ye rich men: weep, and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

Your riches are corrupt, and your garments are moth eaten.

Your gold and silver is cankered, and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh, as it were fire. Ye have heaped up treasure for the last days.

Behold, the hire of the laborers, which have reaped your fields (which is of you kept back by fraud) crieth, and the cries of them which have reaped, are entered into the [b]ears of the Lord of hosts.

Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and in wantonness. Ye have [c]nourished your hearts, as in a [d]day of slaughter.

Ye have condemned, and have killed the just, and he hath not resisted you.
