Psalm 119:169-176

ת (Tav)

169 Listen to my cry for help,[a] O Lord.
Give me insight by your word.
170 Listen to my appeal for mercy.[b]
Deliver me, as you promised.[c]
171 May praise flow freely from my lips,
for you teach me your statutes.
172 May my tongue sing about your instructions,[d]
for all your commands are just.
173 May your hand help me,
for I choose to obey[e] your precepts.
174 I long for your deliverance, O Lord;
I find delight in your law.
175 May I[f] live and praise you.
May your regulations help me.[g]
176 I have wandered off like a lost sheep.[h]
Come looking for your servant,
for I do not forget your commands.

Isaiah 10:12-20

12 But when[a] the Lord[b] finishes judging[c] Mount Zion and Jerusalem, then he[d] will punish the king of Assyria for what he has proudly planned and for the arrogant attitude he displays.[e] 13 For he says:

“By my strong hand I have accomplished this,
by my strategy that I devised.
I invaded the territory of nations,[f]
and looted their storehouses.
Like a mighty conqueror,[g] I brought down rulers.[h]
14 My hand discovered the wealth of the nations, as if it were in a nest,
as one gathers up abandoned eggs,
I gathered up the whole earth.
There was no wing flapping,
or open mouth chirping.”[i]
15 Does an ax exalt itself over the one who wields it,
or a saw magnify itself over the one who cuts with it?[j]
As if a scepter should brandish the one who raises it,
or a staff should lift up what is not made of wood!
16 For this reason[k] the Sovereign Lord of Heaven’s Armies
will make his healthy ones emaciated.[l]
His majestic glory will go up in smoke.[m]
17 The Light of Israel[n] will become a fire,
their Holy One[o] will become a flame;
it will burn and consume the Assyrian king’s[p] briers
and his thorns in one day.
18 The splendor of his forest and his orchard
will be completely destroyed,[q]
as when a sick man’s life ebbs away.[r]
19 There will be so few trees left in his forest,
a child will be able to count them.[s]

20 At that time[t] those left in Israel, those who remain of the family[u] of Jacob, will no longer rely on a foreign leader that abuses them.[v] Instead they will truly[w] rely on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.[x]

John 7:25-36

Questions About Jesus’ Identity

25 Then some of the residents of Jerusalem began to say, “Isn’t this the man[a] they are trying[b] to kill? 26 Yet here he is, speaking publicly,[c] and they are saying nothing to him.[d] Do the ruling authorities[e] really know that this man[f] is the Christ?[g] 27 But we know where this man[h] comes from.[i] Whenever the Christ[j] comes, no one will know where he comes from.”[k]

28 Then Jesus, while teaching in the temple courts,[l] cried out,[m] “You both know me and know where I come from![n] And I have not come on my own initiative,[o] but the one who sent me[p] is true. You do not know him,[q] 29 but[r] I know him, because I have come from him[s] and he[t] sent me.”

30 So then they tried to seize Jesus,[u] but no one laid a hand on him, because his time[v] had not yet come. 31 Yet many of the crowd[w] believed in him and said, “Whenever the Christ[x] comes, he won’t perform more miraculous signs than this man did, will he?”[y]

32 The Pharisees[z] heard the crowd[aa] murmuring these things about Jesus,[ab] so the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers[ac] to arrest him.[ad] 33 Then Jesus said, “I will be with you for only a little while longer,[ae] and then[af] I am going to the one who sent me. 34 You will look for me[ag] but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come.”

35 Then the Jewish leaders[ah] said to one another, “Where is he[ai] going to go that we cannot find him?[aj] He is not going to go to the Jewish people dispersed[ak] among the Greeks and teach the Greeks, is he?[al] 36 What did he mean by saying,[am] ‘You will look for me[an] but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come’?”
