Prayer for Divine Favor

For the leader. A psalm of the Korahites.

I

You once favored, Lord, your land,
    restored the captives of Jacob.(A)

Psalm 85:8-13

Show us, Lord, your mercy;
    grant us your salvation.

III

[a]I will listen for what God, the Lord, has to say;
    surely he will speak of peace
To his people and to his faithful.
    May they not turn to foolishness!
10 Near indeed is his salvation for those who fear him;
    glory will dwell in our land.
11 [b]Love and truth will meet;
    justice and peace will kiss.(A)
12 Truth will spring from the earth;
    justice will look down from heaven.(B)
13 Yes, the Lord will grant his bounty;
    our land will yield its produce.(C)

Ezekiel 36:24-28

24 I will take you away from among the nations, gather you from all the lands, and bring you back to your own soil. 25 [a](A)I will sprinkle clean water over you to make you clean; from all your impurities and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 (B)I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.(C) 27 I will put my spirit within you so that you walk in my statutes, observe my ordinances, and keep them.(D) 28 You will live in the land I gave to your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.(E)

Mark 11:27-33

27 They returned once more to Jerusalem.(A) As he was walking in the temple area, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders approached him 28 and said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things? Or who gave you this authority to do them?” 29 Jesus said to them, “I shall ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30 Was John’s baptism of heavenly or of human origin? Answer me.” 31 They discussed this among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘Of heavenly origin,’ he will say, ‘[Then] why did you not believe him?’ 32 But shall we say, ‘Of human origin’?”—they feared the crowd, for they all thought John really was a prophet. 33 So they said to Jesus in reply, “We do not know.” Then Jesus said to them, “Neither shall I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
