Psalm 96:1-9

Psalm 96[a]

God of the Universe

I

Sing to the Lord a new song;(A)
    sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
    proclaim his salvation day after day.
Tell his glory among the nations;
    among all peoples, his marvelous deeds.(B)

II

[b]For great is the Lord and highly to be praised,
    to be feared above all gods.(C)
For the gods of the nations are idols,
    but the Lord made the heavens.(D)
Splendor and power go before him;
    power and grandeur are in his holy place.

III

Give to the Lord, you families of nations,
    give to the Lord glory and might;
    give to the Lord the glory due his name!(E)
Bring gifts and enter his courts;
    bow down to the Lord, splendid in holiness.
Tremble before him, all the earth;

Psalm 96:10-13

10     (A)declare among the nations: The Lord is king.
The world will surely stand fast, never to be shaken.
    He rules the peoples with fairness.

IV

11 Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice;
    let the sea and what fills it resound;(B)
12     let the plains be joyful and all that is in them.
Then let all the trees of the forest rejoice
13     before the Lord who comes,
    who comes to govern the earth,(C)
To govern the world with justice
    and the peoples with faithfulness.

Judges 17:1-6

III. Further Stories of the Tribes of Dan and Benjamin

Chapter 17

Micah and the Levite. There was a man from the mountain region of Ephraim whose name was Micah. [a]He said to his mother, “The eleven hundred pieces of silver that were taken from you, about which you pronounced a curse and even said it in my hearing—I have that silver. I took it. So now I will restore it to you.” Then his mother said, “May my son be blessed by the Lord!” When he restored the eleven hundred pieces of silver to his mother, she said, “I consecrate the silver to the Lord from my own hand on behalf of my son to make an idol overlaid with silver.”[b](A) So when he restored the silver to his mother, she took two hundred pieces and gave them to the silversmith, who made of them an idol overlaid with silver. So it remained in the house of Micah. The man Micah had a shrine, and he made an ephod and teraphim,[c](B) and installed one of his sons, who became his priest.(C) [d]In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in their own eyes.(D)

3 John 9-12

I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to dominate,[a] does not acknowledge us. 10 Therefore, if I come,[b] I will draw attention to what he is doing, spreading evil nonsense about us. And not content with that, he will not receive the brothers, hindering those who wish to do so and expelling them from the church.

11 Beloved, do not imitate evil[c] but imitate good. Whoever does what is good is of God; whoever does what is evil has never seen God.(A) 12 Demetrius[d] receives a good report from all, even from the truth itself. We give our testimonial as well, and you know our testimony is true.(B)
