15 You know, Lord:
Remember me and take care of me,
avenge me on my persecutors.
Because you are slow to anger, do not banish me;
know that for you I have borne insult.(A)
16 When I found your words, I devoured them;
your words were my joy, the happiness of my heart,
Because I bear your name,
Lord, God of hosts.
17 I did not sit celebrating
in the circle of merrymakers;
Under the weight of your hand I sat alone
because you filled me with rage.(B)
18 Why is my pain continuous,
my wound incurable, refusing to be healed?
To me you are like a deceptive brook,
waters that cannot be relied on!(C)
19 Thus the Lord answered me:
If you come back and I take you back,
in my presence you shall stand;
If you utter what is precious and not what is worthless,
you shall be my mouth.
Then they will be the ones who turn to you,
not you who turn to them.
20 And I will make you toward this people
a fortified wall of bronze.
Though they fight against you,
they shall not prevail,
For I am with you,
to save and rescue you—oracle of the Lord.(D)
21 I will rescue you from the hand of the wicked,
and ransom you from the power of the violent.

Prayer of Innocence

I
Judge me, Lord!
For I have walked in my integrity.(A)
In the Lord I trust;
I do not falter.
2 Examine me, Lord, and test me;
search my heart and mind.(B)
3 Your mercy is before my eyes;
I walk guided by your faithfulness.(C)
II
4 I do not sit with worthless men,
nor with hypocrites do I mingle.
5 I hate an evil assembly;
with the wicked I do not sit.
6 I will wash my hands[b] in innocence(D)
so that I may process around your altar, Lord,
7 To hear the sound of thanksgiving,
and recount all your wondrous deeds.
8 Lord, I love the refuge of your house,
the site of the dwelling-place of your glory.(E)
Mutual Love. 9 Let love be sincere; hate what is evil, hold on to what is good;(A) 10 love one another with mutual affection; anticipate one another in showing honor.(B) 11 Do not grow slack in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.(C) 12 Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.(D) 13 Contribute to the needs of the holy ones,(E) exercise hospitality. 14 [a]Bless those who persecute [you],(F) bless and do not curse them.(G) 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.(H) 16 Have the same regard for one another; do not be haughty but associate with the lowly; do not be wise in your own estimation.(I) 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil; be concerned for what is noble in the sight of all.(J) 18 If possible, on your part, live at peace with all.(K) 19 Beloved, do not look for revenge but leave room for the wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”(L) 20 Rather, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head.”(M) 21 Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good.
21 (A)From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he[a] must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.(B) 22 [b]Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, “God forbid, Lord! No such thing shall ever happen to you.” 23 (C)He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.”
The Conditions of Discipleship.[c] 24 (D)Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself,[d] take up his cross, and follow me. 25 (E)For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.[e] 26 What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life? 27 [f](F)For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory, and then he will repay everyone according to his conduct. 28 [g]Amen, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
