Psalm 75

Psalm 75[a]

God the Judge of the World

For the leader. Do not destroy! A psalm of Asaph; a song.

I

We thank you, God, we give thanks;
    we call upon your name,
    we declare your wonderful deeds.
[You said:][b]
“I will choose the time;
    I will judge fairly.
Though the earth and all its inhabitants quake,
    I make steady its pillars.”(A)
Selah

II

So I say to the boastful: “Do not boast!”(B)
    to the wicked: “Do not raise your horns![c]
Do not raise your horns against heaven!
    Do not speak with a stiff neck!”(C)
For judgment comes not from east or from west,
    not from the wilderness or the mountains,(D)
But from God who decides,
    who brings some low and raises others high.(E)
Yes, a cup[d] is in the Lord’s hand,
    foaming wine, fully spiced.
When God pours it out,
    they will drain it even to the dregs;
    all the wicked of the earth will drink.(F)
10 But I will rejoice forever;
    I will sing praise to the God of Jacob,
11 (G)[Who has said:]
“I will cut off all the horns of the wicked,
    but the horns of the righteous will be exalted.”

Daniel 12

Chapter 12

The Resurrection

“At that time there shall arise Michael,(A)
    the great prince,
    guardian of your people;
It shall be a time unsurpassed in distress
    since the nation began until that time.
At that time your people shall escape,
    everyone who is found written in the book.[a]
Many of those who sleep[b]
    in the dust of the earth shall awake;
Some to everlasting life,
    others to reproach and everlasting disgrace.(B)
But those with insight shall shine brightly
    like the splendor of the firmament,
And those who lead the many to justice
    shall be like the stars[c] forever.(C)

“As for you, Daniel, keep secret the message and seal the book until the end time; many shall wander aimlessly and evil shall increase.”

I, Daniel, looked and saw two others, one standing on either bank of the river. One of them said to the man clothed in linen, who was upstream, “How long shall it be to the end of these appalling things?” The man clothed in linen,(D) who was upstream, lifted his hands to heaven; and I heard him swear by him who lives forever that it should be for a time, two times, and half a time;[d] and that, when the power of the destroyer of the holy people was brought to an end, all these things should end. I heard, but I did not understand; so I asked, “My lord, what follows this?” “Go, Daniel,” he said, “because the words are to be kept secret and sealed until the end time. 10 Many shall be refined, purified, and tested, but the wicked shall prove wicked; the wicked shall have no understanding, but those with insight shall. 11 [e]From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the desolating abomination is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed are they who have patience and persevere for the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days. 13 Go, take your rest, you shall rise for your reward at the end of days.”

Matthew 12:15-21

15 When Jesus realized this, he withdrew from that place. Many [people] followed him, and he cured them all,[a] 16 but he warned them not to make him known. 17 This was to fulfill what had been spoken through Isaiah the prophet:

18 “Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,(A)
    my beloved in whom I delight;
I shall place my spirit upon him,
    and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles.
19 He will not contend[b] or cry out,
    nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed he will not break,
    a smoldering wick he will not quench,
until he brings justice to victory.
21     And in his name the Gentiles will hope.”[c]
