Zechariah 9:9-12

The Coming King of Zion

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
    And cry aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
See, your king is coming to you;
    he is righteous and able to deliver,
    he is humble and riding on a donkey,
    a colt, the offspring of a donkey.
10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
    and the horse from Jerusalem;
    and the bow for battle will be cut off.
He will speak peace to the nations;
    and his dominion will be from one sea to another,
    and from the Great River to the ends of the earth.
11 And as for you, because of the blood of your covenant,
    I will send your prisoners from the empty, waterless pits.
12 Return to your stronghold, prisoners who now have hope.
    Today I declare that I will return to you a double portion.

Psalm 145:8-14

The Lord is gracious and full of compassion,
    slow to anger, and great in mercy.

The Lord is good to all,
    and His compassion is over all His works.
10 All Your works shall praise You, O Lord,
    and Your godly ones shall bless You.
11 They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom
    and talk of Your power,
12 to make known to people His mighty acts,
    and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
    and Your dominion endures throughout all generations.

14 The Lord upholds all who fall,
    and raises up all who are bowed down.

Romans 7:15-25

15 For what I am doing, I do not understand, for I do not practice what I will to do, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 But if I practice what I do not will to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17 So now it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwells no good thing, for the will to do what is right is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19 For the good I desire to do, I do not do, but the evil I do not want is what I do. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who does it, but sin that lives in me.

21 I find then a law that when I desire to do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inner man, 23 but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

So then, with my mind, I serve the law of God, but with my flesh, the law of sin.

Matthew 11:16-19

16 “But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the markets, calling to their friends, 17 saying:

‘We played the flute for you,
    and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge to you,
    and you did not mourn.’

18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a gluttonous man, a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”

Matthew 11:25-30

Come to Me and Rest(A)

25 At that time Jesus said, “I thank You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to infants. 26 Even so, Father, for it seemed good in Your sight.

27 “All things are delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son, except the Father. And no one knows the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son will reveal Him.

28 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me. For I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.[a] 30 For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”
