Psalm 69:7-10

Because of you, people laugh at me.
My face is covered with shame.
I’m an outsider to my own family.
I’m a stranger to my own mother’s children.
My great love for your house destroys me.
Those who make fun of you make fun of me also.
10 When I weep and go without eating,
    they laugh at me.

Psalm 69:11-15

11 When I put on rough clothing to show how sad I am,
    people make jokes about me.
12 Those who gather in public places make fun of me.
Those who get drunk make up songs about me.

13 But Lord, I pray to you.
May this be the time you help me.
God, answer me because you love me so much.
Save me, as you always do.
14 Save me from the trouble I’m in.
It’s like slippery mud, so don’t let me sink in it.
Save me from those who hate me.
Save me from the deep water I’m in.
15 Don’t let the floods cover me.
Don’t let the deep water swallow me up.
Don’t let the grave close its mouth over me.

Psalm 69:16-18

16 Lord, answer me because your love is so good.
Turn to me because you are so kind.
17 Don’t turn your face away from me.
Answer me quickly. I’m in trouble.
18 Come near and save me.
Set me free from my enemies.

Jeremiah 18:12-17

12 But they will reply, ‘It’s no use. We will continue to do what we’ve already planned. All of us will do what our stubborn and evil hearts want us to do.’ ”

13 So the Lord says,

“Ask the nations a question. Say to them,
‘Who has ever heard anything like this?
The people of Israel have done
    a very horrible thing.
14 Does the snow ever disappear
    from Lebanon’s rocky slopes?
Do its cool waters ever stop
    flowing from places far away?
15 But my people have forgotten me.
They burn incense to worthless gods.
Their gods made them trip and fall
as they walked on the old paths.
They made them use side roads
instead of roads that were built up.
16 So their land will become a horrible thing.
People will make fun of it again and again.
All those who pass by it will be shocked.
    They will shake their heads.
17 I will sweep over my people like a wind from the east.
I will use the Babylonians to scatter them.
I will show them my back and not my face.
I will desert them when their day of trouble comes.’ ”

Hebrews 2:5-9

Jesus Was Made Fully Human

God has not put angels in charge of the world that is going to come. We are talking about that world. There is a place where someone has spoken about this. He said,

“What are human beings that you think about them?
What is a son of man that you take care of him?
You made them a little lower than the angels.
You placed on them a crown of glory and honor.
You have put everything under their control.” (Psalm 8:4–6)

So God has put everything under his Son. Everything is under his control. We do not now see everything under his control. But we do see Jesus already given a crown of glory and honor. He was made lower than the angels for a little while. He suffered death. By the grace of God, he tasted death for everyone. That is why he was given his crown.
