² His descendants will be powerful in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.^(B)
3 Wealth and riches are in his house,^(C)
and his righteousness endures forever.^(D)
4 Light shines in the darkness for the upright.^(E)
He is gracious, compassionate, and righteous.^(F)
5 Good will come to a man who lends generously
and conducts his business fairly.^(G)
6 He will never be shaken.^(H)
The righteous man will be remembered forever.^(I)
7 He will not fear bad news;
his heart is confident, trusting in the Lord.^(J)
8 His heart is assured; he will not fear.^(K)
In the end he will look in triumph on his foes.^(L)
9 He distributes freely to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever.^(M)
His horn will be exalted in honor.^(N)

¹⁰ The wicked man will see it and be angry;
he will gnash his teeth in despair.^(O)
The desire of the wicked man will come to nothing.^(P)

¹³ A joyful heart makes a face cheerful,
but a sad heart produces a broken spirit.^(A)

¹⁴ A discerning mind seeks knowledge,^(B)
but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.^(C)

¹⁵ All the days of the oppressed are miserable,
but a cheerful heart has a continual feast.

¹⁶ Better a little with the fear of the Lord
than great treasure with turmoil.^(D)

¹⁷ Better a meal of vegetables where there is love
than a fattened ox^(E) with hatred.^(F)

¹⁰ For the^(E) one who wants to love life
and to see good days
must keep his tongue from evil^(F)
and his lips from speaking deceit,^(G)
11 and he must turn away^(H) from evil
and do what is good.
He must seek peace^(I) and pursue it,
¹² because the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and His ears are open to their request.
But the face of the Lord is against
those who do what is evil.^[c]
