Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
21 But you, Lord, my Lord,
deal kindly with me for your name’s sake;(A)
because your faithful love is good, rescue me.(B)
22 For I am suffering and needy;(C)
my heart is wounded within me.(D)
23 I fade away like a lengthening shadow;(E)
I am shaken off like a locust.
24 My knees are weak from fasting,
and my body is emaciated.[a](F)
25 I have become an object of ridicule to my accusers;[b]
when they see me, they shake their heads in scorn.(G)
26 Help me, Lord my God;
save me according to your faithful love(H)
27 so they may know that this is your hand
and that you, Lord, have done it.(I)
28 Though they curse, you will bless.
When they rise up, they will be put to shame,
but your servant will rejoice.(J)
29 My accusers will be clothed with disgrace;
they will wear their shame like a cloak.(K)
30 I will fervently thank the Lord with my mouth;
I will praise him in the presence of many.(L)
31 For he stands at the right hand of the needy
to save him from those who would condemn him.(M)
33 As I live—the declaration of the Lord God—I will reign over you with a strong hand, an outstretched arm,(A) and outpoured wrath. 34 I will bring you from the peoples and gather you from the countries where you were scattered,(B) with a strong hand, an outstretched arm,(C) and outpoured wrath. 35 I will lead you into the wilderness of the peoples(D) and enter into judgment with you there face to face. 36 Just as I entered into judgment with your ancestors in the wilderness of the land of Egypt,(E) so I will enter into judgment with you. This is the declaration of the Lord God. 37 I will make you pass under the rod(F) and will bring you into the bond of the covenant. 38 I will purge you of those who rebel and transgress against me.(G) I will bring them out of the land where they live as foreign residents, but they will not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
39 “‘As for you, house of Israel, this is what the Lord God says: Go and serve your idols, each of you. But afterward you will surely listen to me, and you will no longer defile my holy name with your gifts and idols.(H) 40 For on my holy mountain, Israel’s high mountain—the declaration of the Lord God—there the entire house of Israel, all of them,(I) will serve me in the land. There I will accept them and will require your contributions and choicest gifts,(J) all your holy offerings. 41 When I bring you from the peoples and gather you from the countries where you have been scattered, I will accept you as a pleasing aroma. And I will demonstrate my holiness through you in the sight of the nations.(K) 42 When I lead you into the land of Israel, the land I swore to give your ancestors, you will know that I am the Lord.(L) 43 There you will remember your ways and all your deeds by which you have defiled yourself,(M) and you will loathe yourselves for all the evil things you have done.(N) 44 You will know that I am the Lord,(O) house of Israel, when I have dealt with you for the sake of my name(P) rather than according to your evil ways and corrupt acts. This is the declaration of the Lord God.’”
6 On another Sabbath(A) he entered the synagogue and was teaching. A man was there whose right hand was shriveled. 7 The scribes and Pharisees were watching him closely,(B) to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could find a charge against him.(C) 8 But he knew their thoughts(D) and told the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand here.”[a] So he got up and stood there. 9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you: Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”(E) 10 After looking around at them all,(F) he told him, “Stretch out your hand.”(G) He did, and his hand was restored.[b] 11 They, however, were filled with rage and started discussing with one another what they might do to Jesus.
