Revised Standard Version (RSV)
Version
Psalm 25:11-20

11 For thy name’s sake, O Lord,
    pardon my guilt, for it is great.
12 Who is the man that fears the Lord?
    Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.
13 He himself shall abide in prosperity,
    and his children shall possess the land.
14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him,
    and he makes known to them his covenant.
15 My eyes are ever toward the Lord,
    for he will pluck my feet out of the net.

16 Turn thou to me, and be gracious to me;
    for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 Relieve the troubles of my heart,
    and bring me[a] out of my distresses.
18 Consider my affliction and my trouble,
    and forgive all my sins.

19 Consider how many are my foes,
    and with what violent hatred they hate me.
20 Oh guard my life, and deliver me;
    let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in thee.

Job 24:1-8

Job Complains of Violence on the Earth

24 “Why are not times of judgment kept by the Almighty,
    and why do those who know him never see his days?
Men remove landmarks;
    they seize flocks and pasture them.
They drive away the ass of the fatherless;
    they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.
They thrust the poor off the road;
    the poor of the earth all hide themselves.
Behold, like wild asses in the desert
    they go forth to their toil,
seeking prey in the wilderness
    as food[a] for their children.
They gather their[b] fodder in the field
    and they glean the vineyard of the wicked man.
They lie all night naked, without clothing,
    and have no covering in the cold.
They are wet with the rain of the mountains,
    and cling to the rock for want of shelter.

James 2:1-7

Warning against Partiality

My brethren, show no partiality as you hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. For if a man with gold rings and in fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, and you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “Have a seat here, please,” while you say to the poor man, “Stand there,” or, “Sit at my feet,” have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my beloved brethren. Has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you, is it not they who drag you into court? Is it not they who blaspheme the honorable name which was invoked over you?
