Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
11 Because of Your name, Yahweh,
forgive my sin, for it is great.(A)
12 Who is the man who fears the Lord?(B)
He will show him the way he should choose.(C)
13 He will live a good life,
and his descendants will inherit the land.[a](D)
14 The secret counsel of the Lord
is for those who fear Him,
and He reveals His covenant to them.(E)
15 My eyes are always on the Lord,
for He will pull my feet out of the net.(F)
16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am alone and afflicted.(G)
17 The distresses of my heart increase;[b](H)
bring me out of my sufferings.(I)
18 Consider my affliction and trouble,(J)
and take away all my sins.(K)
19 Consider my enemies; they are numerous,(L)
and they hate me violently.(M)
20 Guard me and deliver me;(N)
do not let me be put to shame,
for I take refuge in You.(O)
24 Why does the Almighty not reserve times for judgment?(A)
Why do those who know Him never see His days?
2 The wicked displace boundary markers.
They steal a flock and provide pasture for it.
3 They drive away the donkeys owned by the fatherless(B)
and take the widow’s ox as collateral.
4 They push the needy off the road;
the poor of the land are forced into hiding.(C)
5 Like wild donkeys in the desert,
the poor go out to their task of foraging for food;
the wilderness provides nourishment for their children.
6 They gather their fodder in the field
and glean the vineyards of the wicked.
7 Without clothing, they spend the night naked,
having no covering against the cold.(D)
8 Drenched by mountain rains,
they huddle against[a] the rocks, shelterless.
The Sin of Favoritism
2 My brothers, do not show favoritism as you hold on to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.(A) 2 For example, a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and a poor man dressed in dirty clothes also comes in. 3 If you look with favor on the man wearing the fine clothes and say, “Sit here in a good place,” and yet you say to the poor man, “Stand over there,” or, “Sit here on the floor by my footstool,” 4 haven’t you discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?
5 Listen, my dear brothers: Didn’t God choose the poor in this world(B) to be rich in faith(C) and heirs(D) of the kingdom that He has promised to those who love Him? 6 Yet you dishonored that poor man.(E) Don’t the rich oppress you and drag(F) you into the courts? 7 Don’t they blaspheme the noble name that was pronounced over you at your baptism?(G)
