Psalm 16

Psalm 16

A Miktam of David.

Preserve me, O God,
    for in You I take refuge.

I have said to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
    my welfare has no existence outside of You.”
For the holy ones who are in the land,
    they are the majestic ones; in them is all my delight.
Those who chase after other gods,
    their sorrows will be multiplied;
their drink offerings of blood I will not offer,
    nor lift their names on my lips.

The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup;
    You support my lot.
The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    yes, an inheritance is beautiful for me.
I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel;
    my affections also instruct me in the night seasons.
I have set the Lord always before me;
    because He is at my right hand,
    I will not be moved.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;
    my flesh also will rest in security.
10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol,
    nor will You suffer Your godly one to see corruption.
11 You will make known to me the path of life;
    in Your presence is fullness of joy;
    at Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Leviticus 9:22-10:11

22 Aaron lifted up his hand toward the people, and blessed them, and came down from offering the sin offering, the burnt offering, and peace offerings.

23 Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting, and when they came out they blessed the people, and the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. 24 A fire came out from before the Lord, and it consumed the burnt offering and the fat that were on the altar. When all the people saw this, they shouted and fell on their faces.

The Death of Nadab and Abihu

10 Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, and put incense on it, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which He did not command them to do. Then a fire came out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord. Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke, saying:

‘I will be sanctified
    by those who come near Me;
and before all the people
    I will be glorified.’ ”

And Aaron held his peace.

Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said to them, “Come near, and carry your brothers from before the sanctuary out of the camp.” So they went near, and carried them in their tunics out of the camp as Moses had said.

Moses said to Aaron, and to Eleazar and Ithamar his sons, “Do not let your hair be loosely disheveled, nor rend your clothes, lest you die, and lest wrath come upon all the people. Instead, let your brothers, the whole house of Israel, mourn the burning which the Lord has caused. You shall not go out from the entrance of the tent of meeting, lest you die, for the anointing oil of the Lord is upon you.” And they did according to the word of Moses.

The Lord spoke to Aaron, saying: Do not drink wine nor strong drink, you or your sons with you, when you go into the tent of meeting, lest you die. It shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations, 10 so that you may differentiate between what is holy and common and between what is unclean and clean. 11 And so you may teach the children of Israel all the statutes that the Lord has spoken to them by the hand of Moses.

2 Corinthians 13:5-10

Examine yourselves, seeing whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not know that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified. I trust that you will know that we are not disqualified. Now I pray to God that you do no evil, not that we should appear approved, but that you should do that which is honorable, whether or not we may seem disqualified. For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth. For we are glad when we are weak, and you are strong. We wish even your perfection. 10 Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should be sharp, according to the authority which the Lord has given me for edification and not for destruction.
