Psalm 64

Psalm 64

Hide Me From the Conspiracy

Heading
For the choir director. A psalm by David.

Opening Plea

Hear my voice, O God, when I complain.
Protect my life from the terror caused by the enemy.
Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked,
from the noisy mob of evildoers.

The Enemies’ Wickedness

They sharpen their tongues like a sword.
They shoot poison words like arrows.
They shoot at the innocent from hiding places.
Suddenly they shoot at him. They have no fear.
They strengthen each other in an evil plot.
They discuss where to hide snares.
They say, “Who will see them?”
They plot evil deeds and they say,
“We have come up with a perfect plot!”
The mind and heart of man are devious!

God’s Judgment

But God will shoot them.
Suddenly they are wounded with an arrow.
Their own tongues cause their downfall.[a]
Everyone who sees them will shake his head.

The Joy of the Godly

Then all people will be afraid.
They will proclaim the work of God.
They will consider what he has done.
10 Let the righteous rejoice in the Lord
and take refuge in him.
Let all the upright in heart be confident!

Ezekiel 32:1-10

Pharaoh Too Will Descend to the Grave

32 In the twelfth year,[a] in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me. Son of man, raise a lament over Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and say this to him.

You consider yourself a young lion among the nations, but you are like a monster in the seas. You thrash around in your rivers. You churn up the water with your feet and make the rivers muddy.

This is what the Lord God says. I will cast my net over you by an array of mighty nations, and they will haul you up in my fishing net. I will haul you up and leave you on dry land and throw you into an open field. I will let all the birds of the air settle on you. I will let all the wild animals of the earth feed on you till they are filled. I will dump your flesh on the mountains and fill the ravines with your carcass. I will drench the land with the overflow of your blood, up to the mountains, and the streambeds will be filled with your remains.[b]

When you are snuffed out, I will cover the sky and darken its stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light. I will black out all the bright lights in the sky because of you. I will bring darkness over your land, declares the Lord God. I will disturb the hearts of mighty peoples when I bring word about your downfall[c] to the nations, to countries you do not know. 10 I will make many peoples appalled by you, and their kings’ hair will stand on end because of you, when I brandish my sword in front of them. They will tremble every minute, each for his own life, on the day when you fall.

Luke 9:37-43

Jesus Heals a Boy With a Demon

37 The next day, after they had come down from the mountain, a large crowd met him. 38 Just then a man from the crowd called out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, because he is my only child. 39 See, a spirit takes hold of him, and suddenly he screams. Then it throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It hardly ever leaves him and constantly tortures him. 40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.”

41 Jesus answered, “O unbelieving and perverse generation,[a] how long will I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”

42 As the boy was approaching, the demon threw him down and shook him with convulsions. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. 43 They were all astonished at the majesty of God.

Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection

While everyone was amazed at all the things Jesus was doing, he said to his disciples,
