Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
65 ¶ I was sought of those that did not ask for me; I was found of those that did not seek me; I said, Here I am, Here I am, unto a people that did not invoke my name.
2 I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, who walk in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;
3 a people that provokes me to anger continually to my face; that sacrifices in gardens, and burns incense upon altars of brick;
4 who remain asleep among the graves, and lodge in the deserts, who eat swine’s flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;
5 who say, Stand by thyself, do not come near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burns all the day.
6 Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom,
7 For your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, who have burned incense upon the mountains and blasphemed me upon the hills; therefore, I will measure their former work into their bosom.
8 ¶ Thus has the LORD said, As when one has found new wine in a cluster and says, Do not destroy it; for a blessing is in it; so will I do for my slaves’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all.
9 And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains; and my elect shall possess the land for an inheritance, and my slaves shall dwell there.
19 But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.
20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my life from the power of the dog.
21 Save me from the lion’s mouth and from the horns of the unicorns.
22 ¶ I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise thee.
23 Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.
24 For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the poor in spirit; neither has he hid his face from him, but when he cried unto him, he heard.
25 My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation; I will pay my vows before those that fear him.
26 The poor shall eat and be satisfied: those that seek him shall praise the LORD; your heart shall live for ever.
27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto the LORD; and all the families of the Gentiles shall worship before thee.
28 For the kingdom is the LORD’s, and he shall have dominion over the Gentiles.
23 But before faith came, we were under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Therefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But when faith is come, we are no longer under the hand of the schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all sons of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 Here there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye are Christ’s, then ye are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.
26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee.
27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, who had demons for a long time and wore no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.
29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him, and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters, and he broke the bands and was driven of the demon into the wilderness.)
30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion, because many demons were entered into him.
31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the abyss.
32 And there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain, and they besought him that he would allow them to enter into them. And he allowed them.
33 Then the demons went out of the man and entered into the swine, and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake and were choked.
34 When those that fed them saw what was done, they fled and went and told it in the city and in the country.
35 Then they went out to see what was done and came to Jesus and found the man, out of whom the demons were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
36 And those who saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the demons was saved.
37 Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them, for they were taken with great fear; and he went up into the ship and returned back again.
38 Now the man out of whom the demons were departed besought him that he might be with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 Return to thine own house and tell what great things God has done unto thee. And he went, preaching throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done unto him.
