Psalm 8

Psalm 8

For the Music Director. According to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.

O Lord, our Lord,
    how excellent is Your name in all the earth!

You have set Your glory
    above the heavens.
Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
    You have ordained strength
because of Your enemies,
    to silence the enemy and the avenger.
When I consider Your heavens,
    the work of Your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
    which You have established,
what is man that You are mindful of him,
    and the son of man that You attend to him?

For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
    and crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him dominion over the works of Your hands;
    You have put all things under his feet,
all sheep and oxen,
    and also the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air,
    and the fish of the sea,
    and whatever travels the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord,
    how excellent is Your name in all the earth!

Proverbs 4:1-9

Wisdom Is Supreme

Hear, O children, the instruction of a father,
    and attend to know understanding.
For I give you good precepts;
    do not forsake my teaching.
For I was my father’s son,
    tender and the only beloved in the sight of my mother.
He also taught me and said to me,
    “Let your heart retain my words;
    keep my commandments, and live.
Get wisdom! Get understanding!
    Do not forget it, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you;
    love her, and she will keep you.
Wisdom is principal; therefore get wisdom.
    And with all your getting, get understanding.
Exalt her, and she will promote you;
    she will bring you honor, when you embrace her.
She will place on your head an ornament of grace;
    a crown of glory she will deliver to you.”

Luke 2:41-52

The Boy Jesus in the Temple

41 Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 When He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. 43 When the days of the feast were complete, as they returned, the Child Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know of it. 44 But supposing Him to be in their company, they went a day’s journey. Then they searched for Him among their relatives and acquaintances. 45 When they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching for Him. 46 After three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 All who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and His answers. 48 When they saw Him, they were amazed. And His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You dealt with us like this? Look, Your father and I have anxiously searched for You.”

49 He said to them, “How is it that you searched for Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” 50 But they did not understand the word which He spoke to them.

51 Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them. But His mother kept all these words in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and men.
