You have covered the heavens with Your majesty.^[a](C)
2 Because of Your adversaries,
You have established a stronghold^[b]
from the mouths of children and nursing infants^(D)
to silence the enemy and the avenger.

³ When I observe Your heavens,
the work of Your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which You set in place,^(E)
4 what is man that You remember him,
the son of man that You look after him?^(F)
5 You made him little less than God^[c][d]
and crowned him with glory and honor.
⁶ You made him lord over the works of Your hands;
You put everything under his feet:^[e](G)
7 all the sheep and oxen,
as well as the animals in the wild,
⁸ the birds of the sky,
and the fish of the sea
that pass through the currents of the seas.^(H)

⁹ Yahweh, our Lord,
how magnificent is Your name throughout the earth!

¹⁹ The Lord founded the earth by wisdom^(A)
and established the heavens by understanding.
²⁰ By His knowledge the watery depths broke open,^(B)
and the clouds dripped with dew.^(C)

²¹ Maintain your competence and discretion.
My son, don’t lose sight of them.^(D)
22 They will be life for you^[a][b](E)
and adornment^[c] for your neck.
²³ Then you will go safely on your way;
your foot will not stumble.^(F)
24 When you lie^[d] down, you will not be afraid;^(G)
you will lie down, and your sleep will be pleasant.
²⁵ Don’t fear sudden danger
or the ruin of the wicked when it comes,^(H)
26 for the Lord will be your confidence^[e]
and will keep your foot from a snare.^(I)
