Genesis 15:1-12

15 1 The Lord is Abram’s defense and reward. 6 He is justified by faith. 13 The servitude and deliverance out of Egypt is declared. 18 The land of Canaan is promised the fourth time.

After these things, the [a]word of the Lord came unto Abram in a (A)vision, saying, Fear not, Abram, I am thy buckler, and thine exceeding (B)great reward.

And Abram said, [b]O Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of mine house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

Again Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: wherefore lo, a servant of mine house shall be mine heir.

Then behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This man shall not be thine heir, but one that shall come out of thine own bowels, he shall be thine heir.

Moreover he brought him forth and said, (C)Look up now unto heaven, and tell the stars if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

And Abram (D)believed the Lord, and he counted that to him for righteousness.

Again he said unto him, I am the Lord, that brought thee out of (E)Ur, of the Chaldeans, to give thee this land to inherit it.

And he said, O Lord God, [c]Whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

Then he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, a turtle dove also and a pigeon.

10 So he took all these unto him, and [d]divided them in the midst, and laid every piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.

11 Then fowls fell on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.

12 And when the sun went down, there fell an heavy sleep unto Abram: and lo, [e]a very fearful darkness fell upon him.

Genesis 15:17-18

17 Also when the sun went down, there was a darkness: and behold, a smoking furnace, and a firebrand, which went between those pieces.

18 (A)In that same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land: (B)from the river of Egypt unto the great river [a]Euphrates.

Psalm 27

27 1 David maketh this Psalm being delivered from great perils, as appeareth by the praises and thanksgiving annexed:  6 Wherein we may see the constant faith of David against the assaults of all his enemies. 7 And also the end wherefore he desireth to live and to be delivered, only to worship God in his Congregation.

A Psalm of David.

The Lord is my [a]light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

Though an host pitched against me, mine heart should not be afraid: though war be raised against me, I will trust in [b]this.

[c]One thing have I desired of the Lord, that I will require, even that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to visit his Temple.

For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his Tabernacle: in the secret place of his pavilion shall he hide me, and set me up upon a rock.

[d]And now shall he lift up mine head above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his Tabernacle sacrifices of joy: I will sing and praise the Lord.

Hearken unto my voice, O Lord, when I cry: have mercy also upon me and hear me.

When thou saidest, [e]Seek ye my face, mine heart answered unto thee, O Lord, I will seek thy face.

Hide not therefore thy face from me, nor cast thy servant away in displeasure: thou hast been my succor, leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

10 [f]Though my father and my mother should forsake me, yet the Lord will gather me up.

11 Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a right path, because of mine enemies.

12 Give me not unto the [g]lust of mine adversaries: for there are false witnesses risen up against me, and such as speak cruelly.

13 I should have fainted, except I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord [h]in the land of the living.

14 [i]Hope in the Lord: be strong, and he shall comfort thine heart, and trust in the Lord.

Philippians 3:17-4:1

17 Brethren, be followers of me, and look on them, which walk so, as ye have us for an example.

18 (A)[a] For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

19 Whose [b]end is damnation, whose God is their belly, and whose [c]glory is to their shame, which mind earthly things.

20 [d]But our conversation is in heaven, from whence also we look for the (B)Savior, even the Lord Jesus Christ,

21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working, whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

1 From particular exhortations, 4 he cometh to general. 10 He saith that he took such joy in their readiness to liberality, 12 that he will patiently bear the want.

Therefore, [e]my brethren, beloved and longed for, my joy and my [f]crown, so continue in the [g]Lord, ye beloved.

Luke 13:31-35

31 [a]The same day there came certain Pharisees, and said unto him, Depart, and go hence: for Herod will kill thee.

32 Then said he unto them, Go ye and tell that [b]fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and will heal still [c]today, and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be [d]perfected.

33 [e]Nevertheless I must walk today, and tomorrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a Prophet should perish out of Jerusalem.

34 (A)O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the Prophets, and stonest them that are sent to thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, as the hen gathered her [f]brood under her wings, and ye would not.

35 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I tell you, ye shall not see me until the time come that ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Luke 9:28-36

28 (A)[a]And it came to pass about an eight days after those words, that he took Peter and John, and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.

29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was changed, and his garment was white and glistered.

30 And behold, two men talked with him, which were Moses and Elijah:

31 Which appeared in glory, and told of his [b]departing, which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.

32 But Peter and they that were with him, were heavy with sleep, and when they awoke, they saw his glory, and the two men standing with him.

33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: let us therefore make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah, and wist not what he said.

34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud and overshadowed them, and they feared when they were entering into the cloud.

35 (B)And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is that my beloved Son, hear him.

36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone: and they kept it close, and told no man in [c]those days any of those things which they had seen.

Luke 9:37-43

37 [a]And it came to pass on the next day, as they came down from the mountain, much people met him.

38 (A)And behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, behold my son: for he is all that I have.

39 And lo, a spirit taketh him, and suddenly he crieth, and he teareth him, that he foameth, and hardly departeth from him, when he hath [b]bruised him.

40 Now I have besought thy disciples to cast him out, but they could not.

41 Then Jesus answered and said, O generation faithless, and crooked, how long now shall I be with you, and suffer you? bring thy son hither.

42 And while he was yet coming, the devil rent him, and tore him: and Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him to his father.

43 [c]And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God: and while they all wondered at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,
