Psalm 138

Psalm 138

A Psalm of David.

I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart;
    before the gods I will sing Your praise.
I will worship toward Your holy temple,
    and praise Your name
    for Your lovingkindness and for Your truth;
for You have exalted Your word
    above all Your name.
On the day I called, You answered me,
    and strengthened me in my soul.

All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O Lord,
    for they have heard the words of Your mouth.
Indeed, they shall sing of the ways of the Lord,
    for great is the glory of the Lord.

Though the Lord is exalted, yet He has concern for the lowly,
    but the proud one He knows from a distance.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
    You will preserve me;
You stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
    and Your right hand saves me.
The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me;
    Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever;
    do not forsake the works of Your hands.

Judges 3:7-11

Othniel

The children of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs. The anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and He sold them into the hands of Cushan-Rishathaim, king of Mesopotamia. The children of Israel served Cushan-Rishathaim for eight years. Then the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, and the Lord raised up a deliverer in order to save the children of Israel—Othniel son of Kenaz, the younger brother of Caleb. 10 The Spirit of the Lord came on him, and he judged Israel. He went out to battle, and the Lord gave Cushan-Rishathaim, king of Mesopotamia, into his hands, so that Othniel overpowered Cushan-Rishathaim. 11 The land rested forty years, then Othniel son of Kenaz died.

Luke 4:42-44

Preaching in the Synagogues(A)

42 When it was day He departed and went into a remote place. And searching for Him, the people came to Him and tried to prevent Him from leaving them. 43 But He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also, for this is why I was sent.” 44 And He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
