Psalm 80:1-7

Psalm 80[a]

For the music director, according to the shushan-eduth style;[b] a psalm of Asaph.

80 O Shepherd of Israel, pay attention,
you who lead Joseph like a flock of sheep.
You who sit enthroned above the cherubim,[c] reveal your splendor.[d]
In the sight of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh reveal[e] your power.
Come and deliver us.[f]
O God, restore us.
Smile on us.[g] Then we will be delivered.[h]
O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies,[i]
how long will you remain angry at your people while they pray to you?[j]
You have given them tears as food;[k]
you have made them drink tears by the measure.[l]
You have made our neighbors dislike us,[m]
and our enemies insult us.
O God of Heaven’s Armies,[n] restore us.
Smile on us.[o] Then we will be delivered.[p]

Isaiah 42:10-18

10 Sing to the Lord a brand new song!

Praise him[a] from the horizon of the earth,
you who go down to the sea, and everything that lives in it,[b]
you coastlands[c] and those who live there.
11 Let the wilderness and its cities shout out,
the towns where the nomads of Kedar live.
Let the residents of Sela shout joyfully;
let them shout loudly from the mountaintops.
12 Let them give the Lord the honor he deserves;[d]
let them praise his deeds in the coastlands.[e]
13 The Lord emerges like a hero,
like a warrior he inspires himself for battle;[f]
he shouts, yes, he yells,
he shows his enemies his power.[g]
14 “I have been inactive[h] for a long time;
I kept quiet and held back.
Like a woman in labor I groan;
I pant and gasp.[i]
15 I will make the trees on the mountains and hills wither up;[j]
I will dry up all their vegetation.
I will turn streams into islands,[k]
and dry up pools of water.[l]
16 I will lead the blind along an unfamiliar way;[m]
I will guide them down paths they have never traveled.[n]
I will turn the darkness in front of them into light,
and level out the rough ground.[o]
This is what I will do for them.
I will not abandon them.
17 Those who trust in idols
will turn back and be utterly humiliated,[p]
those who say to metal images, ‘You are our gods.’

The Lord Reasons with His People

18 “Listen, you deaf ones!
Take notice,[q] you blind ones!

Hebrews 10:32-39

32 But remember the former days when you endured a harsh conflict of suffering after you were enlightened. 33 At times you were publicly exposed to abuse and afflictions, and at other times you came to share with others who were treated in that way. 34 For in fact you shared the sufferings of those in prison,[a] and you accepted the confiscation of your belongings with joy, because you knew that you certainly[b] had a better and lasting possession. 35 So do not throw away your confidence, because it[c] has great reward. 36 For you need endurance in order to do God’s will and so receive what is promised.[d] 37 For just a little longer[e] and he who is coming will arrive and not delay.[f] 38 But my righteous one will live by faith, and if he shrinks back, I[g] take no pleasure in him.[h] 39 But we are not among those who shrink back and thus perish, but are among those who have faith and preserve their souls.[i]
