Psalm 146

Psalm 146

Hallelujah!

Praise Yahweh, my soul!
I want to praise Yahweh throughout my life.
I want to make music to praise my Elohim as long as I live.

Do not trust influential people,
    mortals who cannot help you.
When they breathe their last breath, they return to the ground.
On that day their plans come to an end.
Blessed are those who receive help from the El of Jacob.
Their hope rests on Yahweh their Elohim,
        who made heaven, earth,
the sea, and everything in them.
    Yahweh remains faithful forever.
He brings about justice for those who are oppressed.
He gives food to those who are hungry.
    Yahweh sets prisoners free.
Yahweh gives sight to blind people.
Yahweh straightens the backs of those who are bent over.
    Yahweh loves righteous people.
Yahweh protects foreigners.
Yahweh gives relief to orphans and widows.
But he keeps wicked people from reaching their goal.
10 Yahweh rules as king forever.
Zion, your Elohim rules throughout every generation.

Hallelujah!

Isaiah 30:27-33

27 The name of Yahweh is going to come from far away.
    His anger is burning.
    His burden is heavy.
His lips are filled with fury.
His tongue is like a devouring flame.
28 His breath is like an overflowing stream.
    It rises neck high,
sifting the nations with a sieve of destruction,
placing a bit in the mouths of the people
                to lead them astray.
29 You will sing a song
like the song you sing on a festival night.
Your hearts will be happy like someone going out with a flute
on the way to Yahweh’s mountain, to the rock of Israel.
30 Yahweh will make his majestic voice heard.
He will come down with all his might,
    with furious anger,
with fire storms, windstorms, rainstorms, and hailstones.
31 At the sound of Yahweh, the people of Assyria will be shattered.
He will strike them with his rod.
32 To the sound of tambourines and lyres, Yahweh will pound on them.
He will fight them in battle, swinging his fists.
33 Topheth was prepared long ago.
It was made ready for the king.
It was made deep and wide and piled high with plenty of burning logs.
Yahweh’s breath will be like a flood of burning sulfur,
    setting it on fire.

Romans 2:1-11

God Will Judge Everyone

No matter who you are, if you judge anyone, you have no excuse. When you judge another person, you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the same things. We know that God’s judgment is right when he condemns people for doing these things. When you judge people for doing these things but then do them yourself, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? Do you have contempt for God, who is very kind to you, puts up with you, and deals patiently with you? Don’t you realize that it is God’s kindness that is trying to lead you to him and change the way you think and act?

Since you are stubborn and don’t want to change the way you think and act, you are adding to the anger that God will have against you on that day when God vents his anger. At that time God will reveal that his decisions are fair. He will pay all people back for what they have done. He will give everlasting life to those who search for glory, honor, and immortality by persisting in doing what is good. But he will bring anger and fury on those who, in selfish pride, refuse to believe the truth and who follow what is wrong. There will be suffering and distress for every person who does evil, for Jews first and Greeks as well. 10 But there will be glory, honor, and peace for every person who does what is good, for Jews first and Greeks as well. 11 God does not play favorites.
