Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Description of a Citizen of Zion.
A Psalm of David.
15 O Lord, who may [a]abide (A)in Your tent?
Who may dwell on Your (B)holy hill?
2 He who (C)walks with integrity, and works righteousness,
And (D)speaks truth in his heart.
3 He (E)does not slander [b]with his tongue,
Nor (F)does evil to his neighbor,
Nor (G)takes up a reproach against his friend;
4 In [c]whose eyes a reprobate is despised,
But [d]who (H)honors those who fear the Lord;
He (I)swears to his own hurt and does not change;
5 He (J)does not put out his money [e]at interest,
Nor (K)does he take a bribe against the innocent.
(L)He who does these things will never be shaken.
8 Moses made haste [a](A)to bow low toward the earth and worship. 9 He said, “(B)If now I have found favor in Your sight, O Lord, I pray, let the Lord go along in our midst, even though [b](C)the people are so obstinate, and (D)pardon our iniquity and our sin, and (E)take us as Your own [c]possession.”
The Covenant Renewed
10 Then [d]God said, “Behold, (F)I am going to make a covenant. Before all your people (G)I will perform miracles which have not been [e]produced in all the earth nor among any of the nations; and all the people [f]among whom you live will see the working of the Lord, for it is a fearful thing that I am going to perform with you.
11 “[g]Be sure to observe what I am commanding you this day: behold, (H)I am going to drive out the Amorite before you, and the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite. 12 (I)Watch yourself that you make no covenant with the inhabitants of the land into which you are going, or it will become a snare in your midst. 13 (J)But rather, you are to tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars and cut down their [h](K)Asherim 14 —for (L)you shall not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God— 15 otherwise you might make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land and they would play the harlot with their gods and (M)sacrifice to their gods, and someone (N)might invite you [i]to eat of his sacrifice, 16 and (O)you might take some of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters might play the harlot with their gods and cause your sons also to play the harlot with their gods. 17 (P)You shall make for yourself no molten gods.
18 “You shall observe (Q)the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For (R)seven days you are to eat unleavened bread, [j]as I commanded you, at the appointed time in the (S)month of Abib, for in the month of Abib you came out of Egypt.
19 “(T)The first offspring from every womb belongs to Me, and all your male livestock, the first offspring from [k]cattle and sheep. 20 (U)You shall redeem with a lamb the [l]first offspring from a donkey; and if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. You shall redeem (V)all the firstborn of your sons. [m](W)None shall appear before Me empty-handed.
21 “You shall work (X)six days, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during plowing time and harvest you shall rest. 22 You shall celebrate (Y)the Feast of Weeks, that is, the first fruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year. 23 (Z)Three times a year all your males are to appear before the Lord [n]God, the God of Israel. 24 For I will [o](AA)drive out nations before you and enlarge your borders, and no man shall covet your land when you go up three times a year to appear before the Lord your God.
25 “(AB)You shall not [p]offer the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread, (AC)nor is the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover to [q]be left over until morning.
26 “You shall bring (AD)the very first of the first fruits of your soil into the house of the Lord your God.
“You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.”
27 Then the Lord said to Moses, “(AE)Write [r]down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made (AF)a covenant with you and with Israel.” 28 So he was there with the Lord (AG)forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And [s](AH)he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, (AI)the Ten [t]Commandments.
Jesus before Pilate
28 (A)Then they *led Jesus from (B)Caiaphas into (C)the [a]Praetorium, and it was early; and they themselves did not enter into (D)the [b]Praetorium so that (E)they would not be defiled, but might eat the Passover. 29 (F)Therefore Pilate went out to them and *said, “What accusation do you bring against this Man?” 30 They answered and said to him, “If this Man were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him to you.” 31 So Pilate said to them, “Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to your law.” The Jews said to him, “We are not permitted to put anyone to death,” 32 to fulfill (G)the word of Jesus which He spoke, signifying by what kind of death He was about to die.
