Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The Lord Praised for His Goodness.
111 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
I (A)will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart,
In the (B)company of the upright and in the assembly.
2 (C)Great are the works of the Lord;
They are [c](D)studied by all who delight in them.
3 [d](E)Splendid and majestic is His work,
And (F)His righteousness endures forever.
4 He has made His [e]wonders [f]to be remembered;
The Lord is (G)gracious and compassionate.
5 He has (H)given [g]food to those who [h]fear Him;
He will (I)remember His covenant forever.
6 He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the heritage of the nations.
7 The works of His hands are [i](J)truth and justice;
All His precepts (K)are [j]sure.
8 They are (L)upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in [k](M)truth and uprightness.
9 He has sent (N)redemption to His people;
He has [l]ordained His covenant forever;
(O)Holy and [m]awesome is His name.
10 The [n](P)fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
A (Q)good understanding have all those who [o]do His commandments;
His (R)praise endures forever.
6 (A)The Lord of hosts will prepare a [a]lavish banquet for (B)all peoples on this mountain;
A banquet of [b]aged wine, [c]choice pieces with marrow,
And [d]refined, aged wine.
7 And on this mountain He will swallow up the [e](C)covering which is over all peoples,
Even the veil which is [f]stretched over all nations.
8 He will (D)swallow up death for all time,
And the Lord [g]God will (E)wipe tears away from all faces,
And He will remove the (F)reproach of His people from all the earth;
For the Lord has spoken.
9 And it will be said in that day,
“Behold, (G)this is our God for whom we have (H)waited that (I)He might save us.
This is the Lord for whom we have waited;
(J)Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.”
10 For the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain,
And (K)Moab will be trodden down in his place
As straw is trodden down in the water of a manure pile.
35 When it was already quite late, His disciples came to Him and said, “[a]This place is desolate and it is already quite late; 36 send them away so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves [b]something to eat.” 37 But He answered them, “You give them something to eat!” (A)And they *said to Him, “Shall we go and spend two hundred [c](B)denarii on bread and give them something to eat?” 38 And He *said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go look!” And when they found out, they *said, “Five, and two fish.” 39 And He commanded them all to [d]sit down by groups on the green grass. 40 They [e]sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties. 41 And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He (C)blessed the food and broke the loaves and He kept giving them to the disciples to set before them; and He divided up the two fish among them all. 42 They all ate and were satisfied, 43 and they picked up twelve full (D)baskets of the broken pieces, and also of the fish. 44 There were (E)five thousand men who ate the loaves.
