Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
23 They are new (A)every morning;
Great is (B)Your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my (C)portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I (D)have hope in Him.”
25 The Lord is good to those who (E)wait for Him,
To the [a]person who (F)seeks Him.
26 It is good that he (G)waits silently
For the salvation of the Lord.
27 It is good for a man that he should bear
The yoke in his youth.
28 Let him (H)sit alone and be silent
Since He has laid it on him.
29 Let him [b]put his mouth in the (I)dust,
Perhaps there is (J)hope.
30 Let him give his (K)cheek to [c]the smiter,
Let him be filled with reproach.
31 For the Lord will (L)not reject forever,
32 For if He causes grief,
Then He will have (M)compassion
According to His abundant lovingkindness.
33 For He (N)does not afflict [d]willingly
Or grieve the sons of men.
Thanksgiving for Deliverance from Death.
A Psalm; a Song at the Dedication of the House. A Psalm of David.
30 I will (A)extol You, O Lord, for You have (B)lifted me up,
And have not let my (C)enemies rejoice over me.
2 O Lord my God,
I (D)cried to You for help, and You (E)healed me.
3 O Lord, You have (F)brought up my soul from [a]Sheol;
You have kept me alive, [b]that I would not (G)go down to the pit.
4 (H)Sing praise to the Lord, you (I)His godly ones,
And (J)give thanks to His holy [c](K)name.
5 For (L)His anger is but for a moment,
His (M)favor is for a lifetime;
Weeping may (N)last for the night,
But a shout of joy comes in the morning.
6 Now as for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I will (O)never be moved.”
7 O Lord, by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong;
You (P)hid Your face, I was dismayed.
8 To You, O Lord, I called,
And to the Lord I made supplication:
9 “What profit is there in my blood, if I (Q)go down to the pit?
Will the (R)dust praise You? Will it declare Your faithfulness?
10 “(S)Hear, O Lord, and be gracious to me;
O Lord, be my (T)helper.”
11 You have turned for me (U)my mourning into dancing;
You have (V)loosed my sackcloth and girded me with (W)gladness,
12 That my [d](X)soul may sing praise to You and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will (Y)give thanks to You forever.
7 But just as you (A)abound (B)in everything, in faith and utterance and knowledge and in all earnestness and in the [a]love we inspired in you, see that you (C)abound in this gracious work also. 8 I (D)am not speaking this as a command, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity of your love also. 9 For you know (E)the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that (F)though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich. 10 I (G)give my opinion in this matter, for this is to your advantage, who were the first to begin (H)a year ago not only to do this, but also to desire to do it. 11 But now finish [b]doing it also, so that just as there was the (I)readiness to desire it, so there may be also the completion of it by your ability. 12 For if the readiness is present, it is acceptable (J)according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. 13 For this is not for the ease of others and for your affliction, but by way of equality— 14 at this present time your abundance being a supply for (K)their need, so that their abundance also may become a supply for (L)your need, that there may be equality; 15 as it is written, “(M)He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little had no lack.”
Miracles and Healing
21 (A)When Jesus had crossed over again in (B)the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him; and so He [a]stayed (C)by the seashore. 22 (D)One of (E)the synagogue [b]officials named Jairus *came up, and on seeing Him, *fell at His feet 23 and *implored Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and (F)lay Your hands on her, so that she will [c]get well and live.” 24 And He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.
25 A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, 26 and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse— 27 after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His [d]cloak. 28 For she [e]thought, “If I just touch His garments, I will [f]get well.” 29 Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her (G)affliction. 30 Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that (H)the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?” 31 And His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’” 32 And He looked around to see the woman who had done this. 33 But the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, (I)your faith has [g]made you well; (J)go in peace and be healed of your (K)affliction.”
35 While He was still speaking, they *came from the house of the (L)synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; why trouble the Teacher anymore?” 36 But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, *said to the (M)synagogue official, “(N)Do not be afraid any longer, only [h]believe.” 37 And He allowed no one to accompany Him, except (O)Peter and [i]James and John the brother of [j]James. 38 They *came to the house of the (P)synagogue official; and He *saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing. 39 And entering in, He *said to them, “Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is asleep.” 40 They began laughing at Him. But putting them all out, He *took along the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and *entered the room where the child was. 41 Taking the child by the hand, He *said to her, “Talitha kum!” (which translated means, “Little girl, (Q)I say to you, get up!”). 42 Immediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astounded. 43 And He (R)gave them strict orders that no one should know about this, and He said that something should be given her to eat.
