Psalm 52

Psalm 52

Your Tongue Is a Razor

Heading
For the choir director. A maskil[a] by David.
When Doeg the Edomite went and informed Saul
and said to him, “David has gone to the house of Ahimelek.”[b]

Doeg’s Sin

Why do you boast about evil, you hero?
The mercy of God endures all day long.
Your tongue plans destruction.
It is like a sharpened razor, you scheming liar.
You love evil rather than good. Interlude
You love lying rather than speaking what is right.
You lying tongue, you love every word that devours!

Doeg’s Judgment

But God will tear you down forever.
He will grab you and pull you out of your tent. Interlude
He will uproot you from the land of the living.
Then the righteous will see and fear.
Then they will laugh at him:
“Look, here is the man who did not make God his stronghold,
but trusted in the greatness of his wealth.
He grew strong by his destructive deeds!”

David’s Delivery

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God.
I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.
I will thank you forever because you have done this.
I will hope in your name in the presence of your favored ones
    because it is good.

Jeremiah 21:11-14

11 Concerning the house of the king of Judah, this is the word of the Lord. 12 The Lord says that you, House of David, are to administer justice in the morning and deliver the victim of robbery from the hand of the oppressor, or my wrath will flare up like fire and burn so that no one can put it out, because of the evil you have done.

13 Look, I am against you, you who live in this valley in the rocky highlands, declares the Lord. I am against you who say, “Who can come against us? Who can enter our homes?” 14 I will punish you according to what you have done, says the Lord. I will kindle a fire in the forest, and it will consume everything around you.

Revelation 21:22-22:5

22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God has given it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations[a] will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory[b] into it. 25 There is no day when its gates will be shut, for there will be no night in that place. 26 They will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. 27 Nothing that is unclean and no one who does what is detestable or who tells lies will ever enter it, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Paradise Restored

22 The angel showed me the[c] river of the water of life, which was as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and the Lamb. In the middle of the city’s street and on each side of the river was a tree of life that yielded twelve kinds of fruit. The tree yields its fruit every month, and its leaves are for the healing of the nations.

There will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city. His servants will worship him. They will see his face. His name will be on their foreheads. There will no longer be any night or any need for lamplight or sunlight, because the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever.
