Psalm 115

Heathen Idols Contrasted with the Lord.

115 (A)Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
But (B)to Your name give glory
Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your [a]truth.
(C)Why should the nations say,
(D)Where, now, is their God?”
But our (E)God is in the heavens;
He (F)does whatever He pleases.
Their (G)idols are silver and gold,
The (H)work of man’s hands.
They have mouths, but they (I)cannot speak;
They have eyes, but they cannot see;
They have ears, but they cannot hear;
They have noses, but they cannot smell;
[b]They have hands, but they cannot feel;
[c]They have feet, but they cannot walk;
They cannot make a sound with their throat.
(J)Those who make them [d]will become like them,
Everyone who trusts in them.

O (K)Israel, (L)trust in the Lord;
He is their (M)help and their shield.
10 O house of (N)Aaron, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who [e](O)fear the Lord, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
12 The Lord (P)has been mindful of us; He will bless us;
He will bless the house of Israel;
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will (Q)bless those who [f]fear the Lord,
(R)The small together with the great.
14 May the Lord (S)give you increase,
You and your children.
15 May you be blessed of the Lord,
(T)Maker of heaven and earth.

16 The heavens are (U)the heavens of the Lord,
But (V)the earth He has given to the sons of men.
17 The (W)dead do not praise [g]the Lord,
Nor do any who go down into (X)silence;
18 But as for us, we will (Y)bless [h]the Lord
From this time forth and forever.
[i]Praise [j]the Lord!

Ezra 9:5-15

Prayer of Confession

But at the evening offering I arose from my [a]humiliation, even with my garment and my robe torn, and I fell on my knees and (A)stretched out my [b]hands to the Lord my God; and I said, “O my God, I am ashamed and embarrassed to lift up my face to You, my God, for our iniquities have [c]risen above our heads and our (B)guilt has grown even to the heavens. (C)Since the days of our fathers to this day we have been in great guilt, and on account of our iniquities we, our kings and our priests have been given into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity and to plunder and to [d](D)open shame, as it is this day. But now for a brief moment grace has been shown from the Lord our God, (E)to leave us an escaped remnant and to give us a (F)peg in His holy place, that our God may (G)enlighten our eyes and grant us a little reviving in our bondage. (H)For we are slaves; yet in our bondage our God has not forsaken us, but (I)has extended lovingkindness to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us reviving to raise up the house of our God, to restore its ruins and to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.

10 “Now, our God, what shall we say after this? For we have forsaken Your commandments, 11 which You have commanded by Your servants the prophets, saying, ‘The land which you are entering to possess is an unclean land with the uncleanness of the peoples of the lands, with their abominations which have filled it from end to end and (J)with their impurity. 12 So now do not (K)give your daughters to their sons nor take their daughters to your sons, and (L)never seek their peace or their prosperity, that you may be strong and eat the good things of the land and (M)leave it as an inheritance to your sons forever.’ 13 After all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and (N)our great guilt, since You our God have requited us less than our iniquities deserve, and have given us (O)an escaped remnant as this, 14 (P)shall we again break Your commandments and intermarry with the peoples [e]who commit these abominations? (Q)Would You not be angry with us [f]to the point of destruction, until there is no remnant nor any who escape? 15 O Lord God of Israel, (R)You are righteous, for we have been left an escaped remnant, as it is this day; behold, we are before You in (S)our guilt, for (T)no one can stand before You because of this.”

John 16:16-24

Jesus’ Death and Resurrection Foretold

16 (A)A little while, and (B)you will no longer see Me; and again a little while, and (C)you will see Me.” 17 Some of His disciples then said to one another, “What is this thing He is telling us, (D)A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because (E)I go to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is talking about.” 19 (F)Jesus knew that they wished to question Him, and He said to them, “Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me’? 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, that (G)you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but (H)your grief will be turned into joy. 21 (I)Whenever a woman is in labor she has [a]pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a [b]child has been born into the world. 22 Therefore (J)you too have grief now; but (K)I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

Prayer Promises

23 (L)In that day (M)you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, (N)if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. 24 (O)Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your (P)joy may be made full.
