Heathen Idols Contrasted with the Lord.
115 (A)Not to us, Lord, not to us,
But (B)to Your name give glory,
Because of Your mercy, because of Your [a]truth.
2 (C)Why should the nations say,
“(D)Where, then, is their God?”
3 But our (E)God is in the heavens;
He (F)does whatever He pleases.
4 Their (G)idols are silver and gold,
The (H)work of human hands.
5 They have mouths, but they (I)cannot speak;
They have eyes, but they cannot see;
6 They have ears, but they cannot hear;
They have noses, but they cannot smell;
7 [b]They have hands, but they cannot feel;
[c]They have feet, but they cannot walk;
They cannot make a sound with their throat.
8 (J)Those who make them [d]will become like them,
Everyone who trusts in them.
9 (K)Israel, (L)trust in the Lord;
He is their (M)help and their shield.
10 House of (N)Aaron, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who [e](O)fear the Lord, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
12 The Lord (P)has been mindful of us; He will bless us.
He will bless the house of Israel;
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will (Q)bless those who [f]fear the Lord,
(R)The small together with the great.
14 May the Lord (S)increase you,
You and your children.
15 May you be blessed of the Lord,
(T)Maker of heaven and earth.
Prayer of Confession
5 But at the evening offering I stood up from my [a]humiliation, even with my garment and my robe torn, and I bowed down on my knees and (A)spread out my [b]hands to the Lord my God; 6 and I said, “My God, I am ashamed and humiliated to lift up my face to You, my God, for our wrongful deeds have [c]risen above our heads, and our (B)guilt has grown even to the heavens. 7 (C)Since the days of our fathers to this day we have been in great guilt, and because of our wrongful deeds we, our kings, and our priests have been handed over to the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to plunder, and to [d](D)open shame, as it is this day. 8 But now for a brief moment grace has been shown from the Lord our God, (E)to leave us an escaped remnant and to give us a [e](F)peg in His holy place, so that our God may (G)enlighten our eyes and grant us a little reviving in our bondage. 9 (H)For we are slaves; yet in our bondage our God has not abandoned us, but (I)has extended favor to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us reviving to erect the house of our God, to restore its ruins, and to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.
10 “And now, our God, what shall we say after this? For we have abandoned Your commandments, 11 which You have commanded by Your servants the prophets, saying, ‘The land which you are entering to possess is an unclean land with the uncleanness of the peoples of the lands, with their abominations which have filled it from end to end, and (J)with their impurity. 12 So now do not (K)give your daughters to their sons nor take their daughters for your sons, and (L)never seek their peace or their prosperity, so that you may be strong and may eat the good things of the land, and (M)leave it as an inheritance to your sons forever.’ 13 And after everything that has come upon us for our evil deeds and (N)our great guilt, since You our God have spared us by inflicting less than our wrongdoing deserves, and have given us such (O)an escaped remnant as this, 14 (P)shall we again break Your commandments and intermarry with the peoples [f]who commit these abominations? (Q)Would You not be angry with us [g]to the point of destruction, until there would be no remnant nor any who would escape? 15 Lord God of Israel, (R)You are righteous, for we have been left an escaped remnant, as it is this day; behold, we are before You in (S)our guilt, for (T)no one can stand before You because of this.”
Jesus’ Death and Resurrection Foretold
16 “(A)A little while, and (B)you no longer are going to see Me; and again a little while, and (C)you will see Me.” 17 So some of His disciples said to one another, “What is this that He is telling us, ‘(D)A little while, and you are not going to see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because (E)I am going to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is talking about.” 19 (F)Jesus knew that they wanted to question Him, and He said to them, “Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you are not going to see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me’? 20 Truly, truly I say to you that (G)you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but (H)your grief will be turned into joy! 21 (I)Whenever a woman is in labor she has [a]pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a [b]child has been born into the world. 22 Therefore (J)you too have grief now; but (K)I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one is going to take your joy away from you.
Prayer Promises
23 And (L)on that day (M)you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly I say to you, (N)if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. 24 (O)Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your (P)joy may be made full.
