The Death of Moses

34 Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab ^(A)to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the Lord showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, ² all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah ^(B)as far as the western sea, ^3 (C)the Negeb, and ^(D)the Plain, that is, the Valley of Jericho ^(E)the city of palm trees, as far as ^(F)Zoar. ⁴ And the Lord said to him, ^(G)“This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’ ^(H)I have let you see it with your eyes, but ^(I)you shall not go over there.” ⁵ So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord, ⁶ and he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth-peor; but ^(J)no one knows the place of his burial to this day. ^7 (K)Moses was 120 years old when he died. ^(L)His eye was undimmed, and his vigour unabated.

⁴ But ^(A)I have said these things to you, that when ^(B)their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you.

The Work of the Holy Spirit

“I did not say these things to you from the beginning, ^(C)because I was with you. ⁵ But now ^(D)I am going to him who sent me, and ^(E)none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ ⁶ But because I have said these things to you, ^(F)sorrow has filled your heart. ⁷ Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for ^(G)if I do not go away, ^(H)the Helper will not come to you. But ^(I)if ^(J)I go, ^(K)I will send him to you. ^8 (L)And when he comes, he will ^(M)convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgement: ⁹ concerning sin, ^(N)because they do not believe in me; ^10 (O)concerning righteousness, ^(P)because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; ^11 (Q)concerning judgement, because the ruler of this world ^(R)is judged.
