Psalm 80

Restore Us, O God

To the choirmaster: according to (A)Lilies. A Testimony. Of (B)Asaph, a Psalm.

80 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel,
    you who lead (C)Joseph like (D)a flock!
You who are (E)enthroned upon the cherubim, (F)shine forth.
    Before (G)Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh,
(H)stir up your might
    and (I)come to save us!
(J)Restore us,[a] O God;
    (K)let your face shine, that we may be saved!
O (L)Lord God of hosts,
    (M)how long will you be angry with your people's prayers?
You have fed them with (N)the bread of tears
    and given them tears to drink in full measure.
(O)You make us an object of contention for our (P)neighbours,
    and our enemies laugh among themselves.
(Q)Restore us, O God of hosts;
    let your face shine, that we may be saved!
You brought (R)a vine out of Egypt;
    you (S)drove out the nations and planted it.
You (T)cleared the ground for it;
    it took deep root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shade,
    the mighty cedars with its branches.
11 It sent out its branches to (U)the sea
    and its shoots to (V)the River.[b]
12 Why then have you (W)broken down its walls,
    so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit?
13 (X)The boar from the forest ravages it,
    and all that move in the field feed on it.
14 Turn again, O God of hosts!
    (Y)Look down from heaven, and see;
have regard for this vine,
15     the stock that your right hand planted,
    and for the son whom you made strong for yourself.
16 They have (Z)burned it with fire; they have (AA)cut it down;
    may they perish at (AB)the rebuke of your face!
17 But (AC)let your hand be on the man of your right hand,
    the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself!
18 Then we shall not turn back from you;
    (AD)give us life, and we will call upon your name!
19 (AE)Restore us, O Lord God of hosts!
    Let your face shine, that we may be saved!

Isaiah 65:17-25

New Heavens and a New Earth

17 “For behold, (A)I create new heavens
    and a new earth,
and the former things shall not be remembered
    or come into mind.
18 But be glad and rejoice for ever
    in that which I create;
for behold, (B)I create Jerusalem to be a joy,
    and her people to be a gladness.
19 (C)I will rejoice in Jerusalem
    and be glad in my people;
(D)no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping
    and the cry of distress.
20 No more shall there be in it
    an infant who lives but a few days,
    or an old man who does not fill out his days,
for (E)the young man shall die a hundred years old,
    and (F)the sinner a hundred years old shall be accursed.
21 (G)They shall build houses and inhabit them;
    they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
22 (H)They shall not build and another inhabit;
    they shall not plant and another eat;
(I)for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be,
    and my chosen shall long enjoy[a] the work of their hands.
23 (J)They shall not labour in vain
    (K)or bear children for calamity,[b]
for (L)they shall be the offspring of the blessed of the Lord,
    and their descendants with them.
24 (M)Before they call I will answer;
    (N)while they are yet speaking I will hear.
25 (O)The wolf and the lamb shall graze together;
    the lion shall eat straw like the ox,
    and (P)dust shall be the serpent's food.
(Q)They shall not hurt or destroy
    in all my holy mountain,”
says the Lord.

John 14:18-31

18 “I will not leave you as orphans; (A)I will come to you. 19 (B)Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but (C)you will see me. (D)Because I live, you also will live. 20 (E)In that day you will know that (F)I am in my Father, and (G)you in me, and (H)I in you. 21 (I)Whoever has my commandments and (J)keeps them, he it is who loves me. And (K)he who loves me (L)will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and (M)manifest myself to him.” 22 (N)Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it (O)that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered him, (P)“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and (Q)we will come to him and (R)make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And (S)the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.

25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the (T)Helper, the Holy Spirit, (U)whom the Father will send in my name, (V)he will teach you all things and (W)bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 (X)Peace I leave with you; (Y)my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. (Z)Let not your hearts be troubled, neither (AA)let them be afraid. 28 (AB)You heard me say to you, (AC)‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I (AD)am going to the Father, for (AE)the Father is greater than I. 29 And (AF)now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for (AG)the ruler of this world is coming. (AH)He has no claim on me, 31 but I do (AI)as the Father has commanded me, (AJ)so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.
