Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The Lord, the Psalmist’s Shepherd.
A Psalm of David.
23 The Lord is my (A)shepherd,
I [a]shall (B)not want.
2 He makes me lie down in (C)green pastures;
He (D)leads me beside [b](E)quiet waters.
3 He (F)restores my soul;
He (G)guides me in the [c](H)paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Even though I (I)walk through the [d]valley of the shadow of death,
I (J)fear no [e]evil, for (K)You are with me;
Your (L)rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You (M)prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You [f]have (N)anointed my head with oil;
My (O)cup overflows.
6 [g]Surely (P)goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will [h](Q)dwell in the house of the Lord [i]forever.
Jacob Prospers
25 Now it came about when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said to Laban, “(A)Send me away, that I may go to my own place and to my own country. 26 Give me my wives and my children (B)for whom I have served you, and let me depart; for you yourself know my service which I have [a]rendered you.” 27 But Laban said to him, “If now [b]it pleases you, stay with me; I have divined (C)that the Lord has blessed me on your account.” 28 He [c]continued, “(D)Name me your wages, and I will give it.” 29 But he said to him, “(E)You yourself know how I have served you and how your cattle have [d]fared with me. 30 For you had little before [e]I came and it has [f]increased to a multitude, and the Lord has blessed you [g]wherever I turned. But now, when shall I provide for my own household also?” 31 So he said, “What shall I give you?” And Jacob said, “You shall not give me anything. If you will do this one thing for me, I will again pasture and keep your flock: 32 let me pass through your entire flock today, removing from there every (F)speckled and spotted sheep and every black [h]one among the lambs and the spotted and speckled among the goats; and such shall be my wages. 33 So my [i]honesty will answer for me later, when you come concerning my [j]wages. Every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats and black among the lambs, if found with me, will be considered stolen.” 34 Laban said, “[k]Good, let it be according to your word.” 35 So he removed on that day the striped and spotted male goats and all the speckled and spotted female goats, every one with white in it, and all the black ones among the sheep, and gave them into the [l]care of his sons. 36 And he put a distance of three days’ journey between himself and Jacob, and Jacob fed the rest of Laban’s flocks.
37 Then Jacob [m]took fresh rods of poplar and almond and plane trees, and peeled white stripes in them, exposing the white which was [n]in the rods. 38 He set the rods which he had peeled in front of the flocks in the gutters, even in the watering troughs, where the flocks came to drink; and they [o]mated when they came to drink. 39 So the flocks [p]mated by the rods, and the flocks brought forth striped, speckled, and spotted. 40 Jacob separated the lambs, and [q]made the flocks face toward the striped and all the black in the flock of Laban; and he put his own herds apart, and did not put them with Laban’s flock. 41 Moreover, whenever the [r]stronger of the flock [s]were mating, Jacob would place the rods in the sight of the flock in the gutters, so that they might [t]mate by the rods; 42 but when the flock was feeble, he did not put them in; so the feebler were Laban’s and the [u]stronger Jacob’s. 43 So (G)the man [v]became exceedingly prosperous, and had large flocks and female and male servants and camels and donkeys.
17 “And now, brethren, I know that you acted (A)in ignorance, just as your (B)rulers did also. 18 But the things which (C)God announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, (D)that His [a]Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. 19 Therefore (E)repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that (F)times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; 20 and that He may send Jesus, the [b]Christ appointed for you, 21 (G)whom heaven must receive until the [c]period of (H)restoration of all things about which (I)God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. 22 Moses said, ‘(J)The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet [d]like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you. 23 (K)And it will be that every (L)soul that does not heed that prophet (M)shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ 24 And likewise, (N)all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days. 25 It is you who are (O)the sons of the prophets and of the (P)covenant which God [e]made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘(Q)And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ 26 For you (R)first, God (S)raised up His [f]Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.”
