⁵ For God alone my soul waits in silence,
    for my hope is from him.
⁶ He alone is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be shaken.^(A)
7 On God rests my deliverance and my honor;
    my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.^(B)

⁸ Trust in him at all times, O people;
    pour out your heart before him;
    God is a refuge for us. Selah^(C)

⁹ Those of low estate are but a breath;
    those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
    they are together lighter than a breath.^(D)
10 Put no confidence in extortion,
    and set no vain hopes on robbery;
    if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.^(E)

¹¹ Once God has spoken;
    twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,^(F)
12     and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.
For you repay to all
    according to their work.^(G)

¹⁴ Cursed be the day
    on which I was born!
The day when my mother bore me,
    let it not be blessed!^(A)
15 Cursed be the man
    who brought the news to my father, saying,
“A child is born to you, a son,”
    making him very glad.^(B)
16 Let that man be like the cities
    that the Lord overthrew without pity;
let him hear a cry in the morning
    and an alarm at noon,^(C)
17 because he did not kill me in the womb;
    so my mother would have been my grave
    and her womb forever pregnant.^(D)
18 Why did I come forth from the womb
    to see toil and sorrow
    and spend my days in shame?^(E)

will you be exalted to heaven?
    No, you will be brought down to Hades.^(B)
