Psalm 125

The Lord the Strength of His People

A Song of Ascents.

125 Those who trust in the Lord
Are like Mount Zion,
Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the Lord surrounds His people
From this time forth and forever.

For (A)the scepter of wickedness shall not rest
On the land allotted to the righteous,
Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.

Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
And to those who are upright in their hearts.

As for such as turn aside to their (B)crooked ways,
The Lord shall lead them away
With the workers of iniquity.

(C)Peace be upon Israel!

Malachi 3:16-4:6

A Book of Remembrance

16 Then those (A)who feared the Lord (B)spoke to one another,
And the Lord listened and heard them;
So (C)a book of remembrance was written before Him
For those who fear the Lord
And who [a]meditate on His name.

17 “They(D) shall be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts,
“On the day that I make them My (E)jewels.[b]
And (F)I will spare them
As a man spares his own son who serves him.”
18 (G)Then you shall again discern
Between the righteous and the wicked,
Between one who serves God
And one who does not serve Him.

The Great Day of God

“For behold, (H)the day is coming,
Burning like an oven,
And all (I)the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be (J)stubble.
And the day which is coming shall burn them up,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“That will (K)leave them neither root nor branch.
But to you who (L)fear My name
The (M)Sun of Righteousness shall arise
With healing in His wings;
And you shall go out
And grow fat like stall-fed calves.
(N)You shall trample the wicked,
For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet
On the day that I do this,
Says the Lord of hosts.

“Remember the (O)Law of Moses, My servant,
Which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel,
With (P)the statutes and judgments.
Behold, I will send you (Q)Elijah the prophet
(R)Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
And (S)he will turn
The hearts of the fathers to the children,
And the hearts of the children to their fathers,
Lest I come and (T)strike the earth with (U)a curse.”

Mark 9:9-13

(A)Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 So they kept this word to themselves, questioning (B)what the rising from the dead meant.

11 And they asked Him, saying, “Why do the scribes say (C)that Elijah must come first?”

12 Then He answered and told them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And (D)how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and (E)be treated with contempt? 13 But I say to you that (F)Elijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him.”
