GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
Version
Psalm 96:1-9

96 Sing to the Lord a new song!
Sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Sing to the Lord! Praise his name!
Day after day announce that the Lord saves his people.
Tell people about his glory.
Tell all the nations about his miracles.

The Lord is great!
He should be highly praised.
He should be feared more than all ⌞other⌟ gods
because all the gods of the nations are idols.
The Lord made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are in his presence.
Strength and beauty are in his holy place.

Give to the Lord, you families of the nations.
Give to the Lord glory and power.
Give to the Lord the glory he deserves.
Bring an offering, and come into his courtyards.
Worship the Lord in ⌞his⌟ holy splendor.
Tremble in his presence, all the earth!

Psalm 96:10-13

10 Say to the nations, “The Lord rules as king!”
The earth stands firm; it cannot be moved.
He will judge people fairly.
11 Let the heavens rejoice and the earth be glad.
Let the sea and everything in it roar like thunder.
12 Let the fields and everything in them rejoice.
Then all the trees in the forest will sing joyfully
13 in the Lord’s presence because he is coming.
He is coming to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness and its people with his truth.

Deuteronomy 17:14-20

14 You will enter the land that the Lord your God is giving you. You will take possession of it and live there. You will say, “Let’s have our own king like all the other nations around us.” 15 Be sure to appoint the king the Lord your God will choose. He must be one of your own people. Never let a foreigner be king, because he’s not one of your own people.

16 The king must never own a large number of horses or make the people return to Egypt to get more horses. The Lord has told you, “You will never go back there again.” 17 The king must never have a large number of wives, or he will turn away ⌞from God⌟. And he must never own a lot of gold and silver.

18 When he becomes king, he should have the Levitical priests make him a copy of these teachings on a scroll. 19 He must keep it with him and read it his entire life. He will learn to fear the Lord his God and faithfully obey everything found in these teachings and laws. 20 Then he won’t think he’s better than the rest of his people, and he won’t disobey these commands in any way. So he and his sons will rule for a long time in Israel.

1 Peter 5:1-5

Instructions for Spiritual Leaders

I appeal to your spiritual leaders.[a] I make this appeal as a spiritual leader who also witnessed Christ’s sufferings and will share in the glory that will be revealed. Be shepherds over the flock God has entrusted to you. Watch over it as God does: Don’t do this because you have to, but because you want to. Don’t do it out of greed, but out of a desire to serve. Don’t be rulers over the people entrusted to you, but be examples for the flock to follow. Then, when the chief shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

Instructions for Christians

Young people, in a similar way, place yourselves under the authority of spiritual leaders.

Furthermore, all of you must serve each other with humility, because God opposes the arrogant but favors the humble.
