Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
פ PE
129 Your testimonies are wonderful;
Therefore my soul keeps them.
130 The entrance of Your words gives light;
(A)It gives understanding to the (B)simple.
131 I opened my mouth and (C)panted,
For I longed for Your commandments.
132 (D)Look upon me and be merciful to me,
(E)As Your custom is toward those who love Your name.
133 (F)Direct my steps by Your word,
And (G)let no iniquity have dominion over me.
134 (H)Redeem me from the oppression of man,
That I may keep Your precepts.
135 (I)Make Your face shine upon Your servant,
And teach me Your statutes.
136 (J)Rivers of water run down from my eyes,
Because men do not keep Your law.
David Proclaims Solomon King(A)
28 Then King David answered and said, “Call Bathsheba to me.” So she came into the king’s presence and stood before the king. 29 And the king took an oath and said, (B)“As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from every distress, 30 (C)just as I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel, saying, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place,’ so I certainly will do this day.”
31 Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and paid homage to the king, and said, (D)“Let my lord King David live forever!”
32 And King David said, “Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.” So they came before the king. 33 The king also said to them, (E)“Take with you the servants of your lord, and have Solomon my son ride on my own (F)mule, and take him down to (G)Gihon.[a] 34 There let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet (H)anoint him king over Israel; and (I)blow the horn, and say, [b]‘Long live King Solomon!’ 35 Then you shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne, and he shall be king in my place. For I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and Judah.”
36 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, (J)“Amen! May the Lord God of my lord the king say so too. 37 (K)As the Lord has been with my lord the king, even so may He be with Solomon, and (L)make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David.”
Paul’s Paternal Care
14 I do not write these things to shame you, but (A)as my beloved children I warn you. 15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for (B)in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 16 Therefore I urge you, (C)imitate me. 17 For this reason I have sent (D)Timothy to you, (E)who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who will (F)remind you of my ways in Christ, as I (G)teach everywhere (H)in every church.
18 (I)Now some are [a]puffed up, as though I were not coming to you. 19 (J)But I will come to you shortly, (K)if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power. 20 For (L)the kingdom of God is not in word but in (M)power.
