Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Psalm 65[a]
For the music director, a psalm of David, a song.
65 Praise awaits you,[b] O God, in Zion.
Vows made to you are fulfilled.
2 You hear prayers;[c]
all people approach you.[d]
3 Our record of sins overwhelms me,[e]
but you forgive[f] our acts of rebellion.
4 How blessed[g] is the one whom you choose,
and allow to live in your palace courts.[h]
May we be satisfied with the good things of your house—
your holy palace.[i]
5 You answer our prayers by performing awesome acts of deliverance,
O God, our savior.[j]
All the ends of the earth trust in you,[k]
as well as those living across the wide seas.[l]
6 You created the mountains by your power,[m]
and demonstrated your strength.[n]
7 You calmed the raging seas[o]
and their roaring waves,
as well as the commotion made by the nations.[p]
8 Even those living in the remotest areas are awestruck by your acts;[q]
you cause those living in the east and west to praise you.[r]
9 You visit the earth and give it rain;[a]
you make it rich and fertile.[b]
God’s streams are full of water;[c]
you provide grain for the people of the earth,[d]
for you have prepared the earth in this way.[e]
10 You saturate[f] its furrows,
and soak[g] its plowed ground.[h]
With rain showers you soften its soil,[i]
and make its crops grow.[j]
11 You crown the year with your good blessings,[k]
and you leave abundance in your wake.[l]
12 The pastures in the wilderness glisten with moisture,[m]
and the hills are clothed with joy.[n]
13 The meadows are clothed with sheep,
and the valleys are covered with grain.
They shout joyfully, yes, they sing.
52 Wake up! Wake up!
Clothe yourself with strength, O Zion!
Put on your beautiful clothes,
O Jerusalem, holy city.
For uncircumcised and unclean pagans
will no longer invade you.
2 Shake off the dirt![a]
Get up, captive[b] Jerusalem.
Take off the iron chains around your neck,
O captive daughter Zion.
3 For this is what the Lord says:
“You were sold for nothing,
and you will not be redeemed for money.”
4 For this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“In the beginning my people went to live temporarily in Egypt;
Assyria oppressed them for no good reason.
5 And now, what do we have here?”[c] says the Lord.
“Indeed my people have been carried away for nothing,
those who rule over them taunt,”[d] says the Lord,
“and my name is constantly slandered[e] all day long.
6 For this reason my people will know my name;
for this reason they will know[f] at that time[g] that I am the one who says,
‘Here I am.’”
Jesus’ Final Public Words
44 But Jesus shouted out,[a] “The one who believes in me does not believe in me, but in the one who sent me,[b] 45 and the one who sees me sees the one who sent me.[c] 46 I have come as a light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in darkness. 47 If anyone[d] hears my words and does not obey them,[e] I do not judge him. For I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world.[f] 48 The one who rejects me and does not accept[g] my words has a judge;[h] the word[i] I have spoken will judge him at the last day. 49 For I have not spoken from my own authority,[j] but the Father himself who sent me has commanded me[k] what I should say and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life.[l] Thus the things I say, I say just as the Father has told me.”[m]
