Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
62 This Psalm partly containeth meditation, whereby David encourageth himself to trust in God against the assaults of temptations. And because our minds are easily drawn from God by the allurements of the world, he sharply reproveth this vanity, to the intent he might cleave fast to the Lord.
To the excellent Musician (A)Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.
1 Yet [a]my soul keepeth silence unto God; of him cometh my salvation.
2 [b]Yet he is my strength and my salvation, and my defense; therefore I shall not much be moved.
3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a [c]man? ye shall be all slain; ye shall be as a bowed wall, or as a [d]wall shaken.
4 Yet they consult to cast him down from his dignity; their delight is in lies: they bless with their mouths, but curse with their hearts. Selah.
5 [e]Yet my soul, keep thou silence unto God: for mine hope is in him.
6 Yet is he my strength and my salvation, and my defense: therefore I shall not be moved.
7 In God is my salvation and my [f]glory, the rock of my strength; in God is my trust.
8 Trust in him always, ye people; [g]pour out your hearts before him, for God is our hope. Selah.
9 Yet the children of men are vanity, the chief men are liars: to lay them upon a balance they are altogether lighter than vanity.
10 Trust not in oppression nor in robbery: [h]be not vain: if riches increase, set not your heart thereon.
11 God spake [i]once or twice, I have heard it, that power belongeth unto God,
12 And to thee, O Lord, mercy: for thou [j]rewardest everyone according to his work.
2 The Lord hath also a controversy with [a]Judah, and will visit Jacob, according to his ways: according to his works, will he recompense him.
3 He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had [b]power with God,
4 And had [c]power over the Angel, and prevailed: he wept and prayed unto him: [d]he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us.
5 Yea, the Lord God of hosts, the Lord is himself his memorial.
6 Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and hope still in thy God.
7 He is [e]Canaan: the balances of decree are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
8 And Ephraim said, Notwithstanding I am rich, I have found me out riches in all my labors: they shall find none iniquity in me, [f]that were wickedness.
9 Though I am the Lord thy God, from the land of Egypt, yet will I make thee to dwell in the tabernacles, as in [g]the days of the solemn feast.
10 I have also spoken by the Prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes by the ministry of the Prophets.
11 Is there [h]iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal, and their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the field.
12 [i]And Jacob fled into the country of Aram, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep,
13 And by a [j]Prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a Prophet was he reserved.
14 But Ephraim provoked him with high places: therefore shall his blood be poured upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord reward him.
16 ¶ (A)[a]And behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And he said unto him, Why called thou me good? there is none good but one, even God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the Commandments.
18 He said unto him, Which? And Jesus said, (B)These, Thou shalt not kill: Thou shalt not commit adultery: Thou shalt not steal: Thou shalt not bear false witness.
19 Honor thy father, and mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
20 The young man said unto him, I have observed all these things from my youth. What lack I yet?
21 Jesus said unto him, If [b]thou wilt be perfect, go, sell that thou hast, and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven, and come, and follow me.
22 And when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
