Version
Psalm 1

Book 1 (Psalms 1-41)

Psalm 1[a]

How blessed[b] is the one[c] who does not follow[d] the advice[e] of the wicked,[f]
or stand in the pathway[g] with sinners,
or sit in the assembly[h] of scoffers.[i]
Instead[j] he finds pleasure in obeying the Lord’s commands;[k]
he meditates on[l] his commands[m] day and night.
He is like[n] a tree planted by flowing streams;[o]
it[p] yields[q] its fruit at the proper time,[r]
and its leaves never fall off.[s]
He succeeds in everything he attempts.[t]
Not so with the wicked!
Instead[u] they are like wind-driven chaff.[v]
For this reason[w] the wicked cannot withstand[x] judgment,[y]
nor can sinners join the assembly of the godly.[z]
Certainly[aa] the Lord guards the way of the godly,[ab]
but the way of the wicked ends in destruction.[ac]

Deuteronomy 7:12-26

Promises of Good for Covenant Obedience

12 If you obey these ordinances and are careful to do them, the Lord your God will faithfully keep covenant with you[a] as he promised[b] your ancestors. 13 He will love and bless you, and make you numerous. He will bless you with many children,[c] with the produce of your soil, your grain, your new wine, your olive oil, the offspring of your oxen, and the young of your flocks in the land that he promised your ancestors to give you. 14 You will be blessed beyond all peoples; there will be no barrenness[d] among you or your livestock. 15 The Lord will protect you from all sickness, and you will not experience any of the terrible diseases that you knew in Egypt; instead he will inflict them on all those who hate you.

Exhortation to Destroy Canaanite Paganism

16 You must destroy[e] all the people whom the Lord your God is about to deliver over to you; you must not pity them or worship[f] their gods, for that will be a snare to you. 17 If you think, “These nations are more numerous than I—how can I dispossess them?” 18 you must not fear them. You must carefully recall[g] what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and all Egypt, 19 the great judgments[h] you saw, the signs and wonders, the strength and power[i] by which he[j] brought you out—thus the Lord your God will do to all the people you fear. 20 Furthermore, the Lord your God will release hornets[k] among them until the very last ones who hide from you[l] perish. 21 You must not tremble in their presence, for the Lord your God, who is present among you, is a great and awesome God. 22 He,[m] the God who leads you, will expel the nations little by little. You will not be allowed to destroy them all at once lest the wild animals overrun you. 23 The Lord your God will give them over to you; he will throw them into a great panic[n] until they are destroyed. 24 He will hand over their kings to you, and you will erase their very names from memory.[o] Nobody will be able to resist you until you destroy them. 25 You must burn the images of their gods, but do not covet the silver and gold that covers them so much that you take it for yourself and thus become ensnared by it; for it is abhorrent[p] to the Lord your God. 26 You must not bring any abhorrent thing into your house and thereby become an object of divine wrath[q] along with it.[r] You must absolutely detest[s] and abhor it,[t] for it is an object of divine wrath.

Colossians 4:7-17

Personal Greetings and Instructions

Tychicus, a dear brother, faithful minister, and fellow slave[a] in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me.[b] I sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are doing[c] and that he may encourage your hearts. I sent him[d] with Onesimus, the faithful and dear brother, who is one of you.[e] They will tell[f] you about everything here.

10 Aristarchus, my fellow prisoner, sends you greetings, as does Mark, the cousin of Barnabas (about whom you received instructions; if he comes to you, welcome him). 11 And Jesus who is called Justus also sends greetings. In terms of Jewish converts,[g] these are the only fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have been a comfort to me. 12 Epaphras, who is one of you and a slave[h] of Christ,[i] greets you. He is always struggling in prayer on your behalf, so that you may stand mature and fully assured[j] in all the will of God. 13 For I can testify that he has worked hard[k] for you and for those in Laodicea and Hierapolis. 14 Our dear friend Luke the physician and Demas[l] greet you. 15 Give my greetings to the brothers and sisters[m] who are in Laodicea and to Nympha and the church that meets in her[n] house.[o] 16 And after[p] you have read this letter, have it read[q] to the church of Laodicea. In turn, read the letter from Laodicea[r] as well. 17 And tell Archippus, “See to it that you complete the ministry you received in the Lord.”
