Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
32 1 David punished with grievous sickness for his sins, counteth them blessed to whom God doth not impute their transgressions. 5 And after that he had confessed his sins, and obtained pardon, 6 he exhorteth the wicked men to live godly, 11 and the good to rejoice.
A Psalm of David to give [a]instruction.
1 Blessed is he whose wickedness is [b]forgiven, and whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man, unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
3 When I held my [c]tongue, my bones consumed, or when I [d]roared all the day,
4 (For thine hand is heavy upon me day and night: and my moisture is turned into the drought of Summer. Selah.)
5 Then I [e]acknowledged my sin unto thee, neither hid I mine iniquity: for I thought, I will confess against myself my wickedness unto the Lord, and thou forgavest the punishment of my sin. Selah.
6 Therefore shall everyone that is godly, make his prayer unto thee in a [f]time, when thou mayest be found: surely in the flood of great waters [g]they shall not come near him.
7 Thou art my secret place: thou preservest me from trouble: thou compassest me about with joyful deliverance. Selah.
8 I will [h]instruct thee, and teach thee in the way that thou shalt go, and I will guide thee with mine eye.
9 Be ye not like an horse, or like a mule which understand not: whose [i]mouths thou dost bind with bit and bridle, lest they come near thee.
10 Many sorrows shall come to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him.
11 Be glad ye righteous, and [j]rejoice in the Lord, and be joyful all ye, that are upright in heart.
30 Therefore behold, I will come against the prophets, saith the Lord, that [a]steal my word every one from his neighbor.
31 Behold, I will come against the prophets, saith the Lord, which have sweet tongues, and say, [b]He saith.
32 Behold, I will come against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the Lord, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their flatteries, and I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they bring no profit unto this people, saith the Lord.
33 And when this people, or the prophet, or a Priest shall ask thee, saying, What is the [c]burden of the Lord? thou shalt then say unto them, What burden? I will even forsake you, saith the Lord.
34 And the prophet, or the priest, or the people that shall say, The [d]burden of the Lord, I will even visit every such one, and his house.
35 Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbor, and every one to his brother, What hath the Lord answered? and what hath the Lord spoken?
36 And the burden of the Lord shall ye mention no more: for every man’s [e]word shall be his burden: for ye have perverted the words of the living God, the Lord of hosts our God.
37 Thus shalt thou say to the Prophet, What hath the Lord answered thee? and what hath the Lord spoken?
38 And if you say, The burden of the Lord, Then thus saith the Lord, Because ye say this word, The burden of the Lord, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the Lord.
39 Therefore behold, I, even I will utterly [f]forget you, and I will forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast you out of my presence,
40 And will bring (A)an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame which shall never be forgotten.
4 1 Having spoken somewhat touching the trying of spirits: 4 For some speak after the world, 5 and some after God. 7 He returneth to charity, 11, 19 and by the example of God he exhorteth to brotherly love.
1 Dearly [a]beloved, believe not every [b]spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: for many false Prophets are gone out into the world.
2 [c]Hereby shall ye know the Spirit of God, [d]Every spirit which confesseth that [e]Jesus Christ is come in the [f]flesh is of God.
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is not of God: but this is the spirit of Antichrist, of whom ye have heard, how that he should come, and now already he is in this world.
4 [g]Little children, ye are of God, and have overcome them: for greater is he that is in you, than he that is in this world.
5 [h]They are of this world, therefore spake they of this world, and this world heareth them.
6 [i]We are of God, (A)he that knoweth God, heareth us: he that is not of God heareth us not. Hereby know we the [j]Spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
