Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
89 1 With many words doth the Prophet praise the goodness of God, 23 For his testament and covenant, that he had made between him and his elect by Jesus Christ the son of David. 38 Then doth he complain of the great ruin, and desolation of the kingdom of David, so that to the outward appearance the promise was broken. 46 Finally, he prayeth to be delivered from his afflictions, making mention of the shortness of man’s life, and confirming himself by God’s promise.
A Psalm to give instruction, of Ethan the Ezrahite.
1 I will [a]sing the mercies of the Lord forever: with my mouth will I declare thy truth from generation to generation.
2 For I [b]said, Mercy shall be set up forever: thy truth shalt thou [c]stablish in the very heavens.
3 [d]I have made a covenant with my chosen: I have sworn to David my servant,
4 Thy seed will I stablish forever, and set up thy throne from generation to generation. Selah.
5 O Lord, even the [e]heavens shall praise thy wondrous work: yea, thy truth in the [f]Congregation of the Saints.
6 For who is equal to the Lord in the heaven? and who is like the Lord among the [g]sons of the gods?
7 God is very terrible in the assembly of the [h]Saints, and to be reverenced above all that are about him.
8 O Lord God of hosts, who is like unto thee, which art a mighty Lord, and thy truth is about thee?
9 [i]Thou rulest the raging of the Sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
10 Thou hast beaten down Rahab as a man slain: thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy mighty arm.
11 The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: thou hast laid the foundation of the world, and all that therein is.
12 Thou hast created the North and the South: [j]Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy Name.
13 Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.
14 [k]Righteousness and equity are the stablishment of thy throne: mercy and truth go before thy face.
15 Blessed is the people that can [l]rejoice in thee: they shall walk in the light of thy [m]countenance, O Lord.
16 They shall rejoice continually in thy Name, and in thy righteousness shall they exalt themselves.
17 For thou art the [n]glory of their strength, and by thy favor our horns shall be exalted.
18 For our [o]shield appertaineth to the Lord, and our King to the Holy one of Israel.
22 Then Hilkiah and they that the king had appointed went to Huldah the prophetess the wife of Shallum, the son of [a]Tokhath, the son of [b]Hasrah keeper of the [c]wardrobe (and she dwelt in Jerusalem within the [d]college) and they communed hereof with her.
23 And she answered them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Tell ye [e]the man that sent you to me,
24 Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses, that are written in the book which they have read before the King of Judah:
25 Because they have forsaken me, and burnt incense unto other gods, to anger me with all the works of their [f]hands, therefore shall my wrath fall upon this place, and shall not be quenched.
26 But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, so shall ye say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The words which thou hast heard, shall come to pass.
27 But because thine heart did [g]melt, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and tearest thy clothes, and weptest before me, I have also heard it, saith the Lord.
28 Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be put in thy grave in peace, and thine eyes shall not see all the evil, which I will bring upon this [h]place and upon the inhabitants of the same. Thus they brought the King word again.
29 ¶ Then the King sent and gathered all the Elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
30 And the King went up into the house of the Lord, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the Priests and the Levites, and all the people from the greatest to the [i]smallest, and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the Covenant that was found in the house of the Lord.
31 And the King stood by his pillar, and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes with all his heart, and with all his soul, and that he would accomplish the words of the Covenant written in the same book.
32 And he caused all that were found in Jerusalem, and Benjamin to stand to it: and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the Covenant of God, even the God of their fathers.
33 So Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and compelled all [j]that were found in Israel, to serve the Lord their God: so all his days they turned not back from the Lord God of their fathers.
17 By faith (A)Abraham offered up Isaac, when he was [a]tried, and he that had received the [b]promises, offered his only begotten son.
18 (To whom it was said, (B)In Isaac shall thy seed be called.)
19 For he considered that God was able to raise him up even from the dead: from [c]whence he received him also after [d]a sort.
20 [e]By faith (C)Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, concerning things to come.
21 [f]By faith (D)Jacob when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph, and (E)leaning on the end of his staff, worshipped God.
22 [g]By faith (F)Joseph when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel, and gave commandment of his bones.
23 (G)[h] By faith Moses when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child, neither [i]feared they the king’s (H)commandment.
24 By faith (I)Moses when he was come to age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,
25 And chose rather to suffer adversity with the people of God, than to enjoy the [j]pleasures of sin for a season,
26 Esteeming the rebuke of Christ greater riches, than the treasures of Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.
27 By faith he forsook Egypt, and feared not the fierceness of the king: for he endured, as he that saw him which is invisible.
28 Through faith he ordained the (J)Passover and the effusion of blood, lest he that destroyed the first born, should touch them.
