Psalm 15

Psalm 15[a]

A psalm of David.

15 Lord, who may be a guest in your home?[b]
Who may live on your holy hill?[c]
Whoever lives a blameless life,[d]
does what is right,
and speaks honestly.[e]
He[f] does not slander,[g]
or do harm to others,[h]
or insult his neighbor.[i]
He despises a reprobate,[j]
but honors the Lord’s loyal followers.[k]
He makes firm commitments and does not renege on his promise.[l]
He does not charge interest when he lends his money.[m]
He does not take bribes to testify against the innocent.[n]
The one who lives like this[o] will never be shaken.

Genesis 12:10-20

The Promised Blessing Jeopardized

10 There was a famine in the land, so Abram went down to Egypt[a] to stay for a while[b] because the famine was severe.[c] 11 As he approached[d] Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “Look,[e] I know that you are a beautiful woman.[f] 12 When the Egyptians see you they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will keep you alive.[g] 13 So tell them[h] you are my sister[i] so that it may go well[j] for me because of you and my life will be spared[k] on account of you.”

14 When Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. 15 When Pharaoh’s officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh. So Abram’s wife[l] was taken[m] into the household of Pharaoh,[n] 16 and he did treat Abram well[o] on account of her. Abram received[p] sheep and cattle, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.

17 But the Lord struck Pharaoh and his household with severe diseases[q] because of Sarai, Abram’s wife. 18 So Pharaoh summoned Abram and said, “What is this[r] you have done to me? Why didn’t you tell me that she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her[s] to be my wife?[t] Now, here is your wife. Take her and go!”[u] 20 Pharaoh gave his men orders about Abram,[v] and so they expelled him, along with his wife and all his possessions.

Hebrews 5:1-6

For every high priest is taken from among the people[a] and appointed[b] to represent them before God,[c] to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal compassionately with those who are ignorant and erring, since he also is subject to weakness, and for this reason he is obligated to make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people. And no one assumes this honor[d] on his own initiative,[e] but only when called to it by God,[f] as in fact Aaron was. So also Christ did not glorify himself in becoming high priest, but the one who glorified him was God,[g] who said to him, “You are my Son! Today I have fathered you,”[h] as also in another place God[i] says, “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”[j]
