預言受難與復活
21 耶穌告誡他們，吩咐他們不要把這事告訴任何人。 22 又說：「人子必須受很多苦害，被長老們、祭司長們和經文士們棄絕，並且被殺，然後在第三天復活。」
背起你的十字架
23 耶穌又對大家說：「如果有人想要來跟從我，他就當否定自己，天天[a]背起自己的十字架，然後跟從我。 24 因為凡想要保全[b]自己生命的，將失去生命；凡為我的緣故失去自己生命的，這個人將保全[c]生命。 25 一個人就是賺得了全世界，卻喪失了自己，或賠上了自己，到底有什麼益處呢？ 26 一個人如果以我和我的話為恥，當人子在自己、父，和聖天使們的榮耀中來臨的時候，也要以這個人為恥。 27 我確實地告訴你們：站在這裡的有些人，在還沒有嘗到死的滋味之前，必定見到神的國。」
