Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
48 1 A notable deliverance of Jerusalem from the hands of many kings is mentioned, for the which thanks are given to God, and the state of that city is praised, that hath God so presently at all times ready to defend them. This Psalm seemeth to be made in the time of Ahaz, Jehoshaphat, Asa, or Hezekiah: for in their times chiefly was the city by foreign princes assaulted.
[a]A song or Psalm committed to the sons of Korah.
1 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the [b]City of our God, even upon his holy Mountain.
2 Mount Zion, lying Northward, is fair in situation: it is the [c]joy of the whole earth, and the City of the great king.
3 In the palaces thereof God is known for a [d]refuge.
4 For lo, the kings were [e]gathered, and went together.
5 When they saw [f]it, they marveled: they were astonied, and suddenly driven back.
6 Fear came there upon them, and sorrow, as upon a woman in travail.
7 As with an East wind thou breakest the ships [g]of Tarshish, so were they destroyed.
8 As we have [h]heard, so have we seen in the City of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it forever. Selah.
9 We wait for thy loving-kindness, O God, in the midst of thy Temple.
10 O God, according to thy Name, so is thy praise unto the [i]world’s end: thy right hand is full of righteousness.
11 Let [j]mount Zion rejoice, and the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.
12 [k]Compass about Zion, and go round about it, and tell the towers thereof.
13 Mark well the wall thereof: behold her towers, that ye may tell your posterity.
14 For this God is our God forever and ever, he shall be our guide unto the death.
14 Again the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
15 Son of man, thy [a]brethren, even thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel, wholly are they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Depart ye far from the Lord: for the land is given us in possession.
16 Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord God, Although I have cast them far off among the heathen, and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet will I be to them as a little [b]Sanctuary in the countries where they shall come.
17 Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord God, I will gather you again from the people, and assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.
18 And they shall come thither, and they shall take away all the idols thereof, and all the abominations thereof from thence.
19 (A)And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within their bowels: and I will take the [c]stony heart out of their bodies, and will give them an heart of flesh,
20 That they may walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and execute them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.
21 But upon them, whose heart is toward their idols, and whose affection goeth after their abominations, I will lay their way upon their own heads saith the Lord God.
22 ¶ Then did the Cherubims lift up their wings, and the wheels beside them, and the glory of the God of Israel was upon them on high.
23 And the glory of the Lord went up from the midst of the city, and stood upon the mountain which is toward the East side of the city.
24 Afterward the Spirit took me up, and brought me in a vision by the Spirit of God into Chaldea to them that were led away captives: so the vision that I had seen, went up from me.
25 Then I declared unto them that were [d]led away captives, all the things that the Lord had showed me.
12 Now we have receiveth not the [a]spirit of the world, but the Spirit, which is of God, [b]that we might [c]know the things that are given to us of God.
13 [d]Which things also we speak, not in the (A)words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the holy Ghost teacheth, [e]comparing spiritual things with spiritual things.
14 [f]But the [g]natural man perceiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them, because they are [h]spiritually discerned.
15 [i]But he that is spiritual, [j]discerneth all things: yet [k]he himself is judged of [l]no man.
16 (B)[m]For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he might [n]instruct him? But we have the [o]mind of Christ.
