Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
9 2 Saul going towards Damascus, 4 is stricken down to the ground of the Lord: 10 Ananias is sent 18 to baptize him. 23 The laying away of the Jews, 25 he escapeth, being let down through the wall. 33 Peter cureth Aeneas of the palsy, 36 and by him Tabitha being dead, 40 is restored to life.
1 And (A)[a]Saul yet [b]breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high Priest,
2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the Synagogues, that if he found any that were of that [c]way, (either men or women) he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
3 Now as he journeyed, it came to pass that as he was come near to Damascus, (B)suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven.
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is [d]hard for thee to kick against pricks.
6 He then both trembling and astonied, said, Lord, what wilt thou that I do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou shalt do.
7 The men also which journeyed with him, [a]stood amazed, hearing his [b]voice, but seeing no man.
8 And Saul arose from the ground, and opened his eyes, but saw no man. Then led they him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus,
9 Where he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.
10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias, and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here Lord.
11 Then the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and seek in the house of Judas after one called Saul of [c]Tarsus: for behold, he prayeth.
12 (And he saw in a vision a man named Ananias coming in to him, and putting his hands on him, that he might receive his sight.)
13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem.
14 Moreover here he hath authority of the high Priests, to bind all that call on thy Name.
15 Then the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a [d]chosen vessel unto me, to bear my Name before the Gentiles, and Kings, and the children of Israel.
16 For I will [e]show him, how many things he must suffer for my Name’s sake.
17 Then Ananias went his way, and entered into [f]that house, and put his hands on him, and saith, Brother Saul, the Lord hath sent me (even Jesus that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest) that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the holy Ghost.
18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales, and suddenly he received sight, and arose, and was baptized,
19 And received meat, and was strengthened. So was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.
20 [g]And straightway he preached Christ in the Synagogues, that he was that Son of God.
30 1 When David was delivered, from great danger, he rendered thanks to God, exhorting others to do the like, and to learn by his example, that God is rather merciful than severe and rigorous towards his children. 7 And also that the fall from prosperity to adversity is sudden. 8 This done, he returneth to prayer, promising to praise God forever.
(A)A Psalm or song of the (B)dedication of the [a]house of David.
1 I will magnify thee, O Lord: [b]thou hast exalted me, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
2 O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast [c]restored me.
3 O Lord, thou hast brought up my [d]soul out of the grave: thou hast revived me from them that go down into the pit.
4 Sing praises unto the Lord, ye [e]his Saints, and give thanks [f]before the remembrance of his Holiness.
5 (C)For he endureth but a while in his anger: but in his favor is life: weeping may abide at evening, but joy cometh in the morning.
6 And in my [g]prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.
7 For thou Lord of thy goodness hadst made my [h]mountain to stand strong: but thou didst hide thy face, and I [i]was troubled.
8 Then cried I unto thee, O Lord, and prayed to my Lord.
9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit! shall the [j]dust give thanks unto thee? or shall it declare thy truth?
10 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou mine helper.
11 Thou hast turned my mourning into joy: thou hast loosed my sack, and girded me with gladness.
12 Therefore shall my [k]tongue praise thee and not cease: O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee forever.
11 [a]Then I beheld, and I heard the voice of many Angels round about the throne, and about the beasts and the Elders, [b]and there were (A)[c]ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousand thousands,
12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was killed, to [d]receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and praise.
13 [e]And all the creatures which are in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Praise, and honor, and glory, and power be unto him, that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for evermore.
14 [f]And the four beasts said, Amen, and the four and twenty Elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for evermore.
21 1 Jesus appeareth to his disciples as they were fishing, 6, 7 whom they know by a miraculous draught of fishes. 15 He committeth the charge of the sheep to Peter, 18 and foretelleth him of the manner of his death.
1 After these things, [a]Jesus showed himself again to his disciples at the sea of Tiberias: and thus showed he himself:
2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas, which is called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples.
3 Simon Peter said unto them, I go a fishing. They said unto him, We also will go with thee. They went their way and entered into a ship straightway, and that night caught they nothing.
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: nevertheless the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
5 Jesus then said unto them, Sirs, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
6 Then he said unto them, Cast out the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. So they cast out, and they were not able at all to draw it, for the multitude of fishes.
7 Therefore said the disciple whom Jesus loved, unto Peter, It is the Lord. When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girded his [b]coat to him (for he was naked) and cast himself into the sea.
8 But the other disciples came by ship, (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits) and they drew the net with fishes.
9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw hot coals, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
10 Jesus said unto them, Bring of the fishes, which ye have now caught.
11 Simon Peter stepped forth and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred, fifty and three: and albeit there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
12 Jesus said unto them, Come, and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? seeing they knew that he was the Lord.
13 Jesus then came and took bread and gave them, and fish likewise.
14 This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen again from the dead.
15 ¶ [c]So when they had dined, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon the son of Jonah, lovest thou me more than these? He said unto him, Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He said to him again the second time, Simon the son of Jonah, lovest thou me? He said unto him, Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He said unto him [d]the third time, Simon the son of Jonah, lovest thou me? Peter was sorry because he said to him the third time, Lovest thou me? and said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things: thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus said unto him, Feed my sheep.
18 [e]Verily, verily I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou [f]girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thine hands, and another shall [g]gird thee, and lead thee without thou wouldest [h]not.
19 And this spake he signifying by what [i]death he should glorify God. And when he had said this, he said to him, Follow me.
