Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
23 He gave a command to the clouds above,
and opened the doors in the sky.
24 He rained down manna for them to eat;
he gave them the grain of heaven.[a]
25 Man ate the food of the mighty ones.[b]
He sent them more than enough to eat.[c]
26 He brought the east wind through the sky,
and by his strength led forth the south wind.
27 He rained down meat on them like dust,
birds as numerous as the sand on the seashores.[d]
28 He caused them to fall right in the middle of their camp,
all around their homes.
29 They ate until they were beyond full;[e]
he gave them what they desired.
Participation in the Passover
43 [a] The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the ordinance of the Passover. No foreigner may[b] share in eating it.[c] 44 But everyone’s servant who is bought for money, after you have circumcised him, may eat it. 45 A foreigner and a hired worker must not eat it. 46 It must be eaten in one house; you must not bring any of the meat outside the house, and you must not break a bone of it. 47 The whole community of Israel must observe it.
48 “When a resident foreigner[d] lives with you and wants to observe the Passover to the Lord, all his males must be circumcised,[e] and then he may approach and observe it, and he will be like one who is born in the land[f]—but no uncircumcised person may eat of it. 49 The same law will apply[g] to the person who is native-born and to the resident foreigner[h] who lives among you.”
50 So all the Israelites did exactly as the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron.[i] 51 And on this very day the Lord brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their regiments.
The Law of the Firstborn
13 [j] The Lord spoke[k] to Moses, 2 “Set apart[l] to me every firstborn male—the first offspring of every womb[m] among the Israelites, whether human or animal; it is mine.”[n]
27 For this reason, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 A person should examine himself first,[a] and in this way[b] let him eat the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For the one who eats and drinks without careful regard[c] for the body eats and drinks judgment against himself. 30 That is why many of you are weak and sick, and quite a few are dead.[d] 31 But if we examined ourselves, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned with the world. 33 So then, my brothers and sisters,[e] when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 34 If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that when you assemble it does not lead to judgment. I will give directions about other matters when I come.
