Psalm 142

A Plea for Relief from Persecutors

A (A)Contemplation[a] of David. A Prayer (B)when he was in the cave.

142 I cry out to the Lord with my voice;
With my voice to the Lord I make my supplication.
I pour out my complaint before Him;
I declare before Him my trouble.

When my spirit [b]was (C)overwhelmed within me,
Then You knew my path.
In the way in which I walk
They have secretly (D)set a snare for me.
Look on my right hand and see,
For there is no one who acknowledges me;
Refuge has failed me;
No one cares for my soul.

I cried out to You, O Lord:
I said, “You are my refuge,
My portion in the land of the living.
[c]Attend to my cry,
For I am brought very low;
Deliver me from my persecutors,
For they are stronger than I.
Bring my soul out of prison,
That I may (E)praise Your name;
The righteous shall surround me,
For You shall deal bountifully with me.”

Amos 9:11-15

Israel Will Be Restored

11 “On(A) that day I will raise up
The [a]tabernacle of David, which has fallen down,
And [b]repair its damages;
I will raise up its ruins,
And rebuild it as in the days of old;
12 (B)That they may possess the remnant of (C)Edom,[c]
And all the Gentiles who are called by My name,”
Says the Lord who does this thing.

13 “Behold, (D)the days are coming,” says the Lord,
“When the plowman shall overtake the reaper,
And the treader of grapes him who sows seed;
(E)The mountains shall drip with sweet wine,
And all the hills shall flow with it.
14 (F)I will bring back the captives of My people Israel;
(G)They shall build the waste cities and inhabit them;
They shall plant vineyards and drink wine from them;
They shall also make gardens and eat fruit from them.
15 I will plant them in their land,
(H)And no longer shall they be pulled up
From the land I have given them,”
Says the Lord your God.

Luke 7:31-35

31 [a]And the Lord said, (A)“To what then shall I liken the men of this generation, and what are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying:

‘We played the flute for you,
And you did not dance;
We mourned to you,
And you did not weep.’

33 For (B)John the Baptist came (C)neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34 The Son of Man has come (D)eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look, a glutton and a [b]winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ 35 (E)But wisdom is justified by all her children.”
