Psalm 110

Psalm 110[a]

A psalm of David.

110 Here is the Lord’s proclamation[b] to my lord:[c]
“Sit down at my right hand[d] until I make your enemies your footstool.”[e]
The Lord[f] extends[g] your dominion[h] from Zion.
Rule in the midst of your enemies.
Your people willingly follow you[i] when you go into battle.[j]
On the holy hills[k] at sunrise[l] the dew of your youth[m] belongs to you.[n]
The Lord makes this promise on oath[o] and will not revoke it:[p]
“You are an eternal priest[q] after the pattern of[r] Melchizedek.”[s]
O Lord,[t] at your right hand
he strikes down[u] kings in the day he unleashes his anger.[v]
He executes judgment[w] against[x] the nations.
He fills the valleys with corpses;[y]
he shatters their heads over the vast battlefield.[z]
From the stream along the road he drinks;
then he lifts up his head.[aa]

Proverbs 3:1-12

Exhortations to Seek Wisdom and Walk with the Lord[a]

My child,[b] do not forget my teaching,
but let your heart keep[c] my commandments,
for they will provide[d] a long and full life,[e]
and well-being[f] for you.
Do not let mercy and truth[g] leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.[h]
Then you will find[i] favor and good understanding,[j]
in the sight of God and people.[k]
Trust[l] in the Lord with all your heart,[m]
and do not rely[n] on your own understanding.[o]
Acknowledge[p] him in all your ways,[q]
and he will make your paths straight.[r]
Do not be wise in your own estimation;[s]
fear the Lord and turn away from evil.[t]
This will bring[u] healing to your body,[v]
and refreshment[w] to your inner self.[x]
Honor[y] the Lord from your wealth
and from the firstfruits of all your crops;[z]
10 then your barns will be filled completely,[aa]
and your vats[ab] will overflow[ac] with new wine.[ad]
11 My child, do not despise discipline from the Lord,[ae]
and do not loathe[af] his rebuke.
12 For the Lord disciplines[ag] those he loves,
just as a father[ah] disciplines[ai] the son in whom he delights.

James 4:11-17

11 Do not speak against one another, brothers and sisters.[a] He who speaks against a fellow believer[b] or judges a fellow believer speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but its judge.[c] 12 But there is only one who is lawgiver and judge—the one who is able to save and destroy. On the other hand, who are you to judge your neighbor?[d]

13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into this or that town[e] and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.” 14 You[f] do not know about tomorrow. What is your life like?[g] For you are a puff of smoke[h] that appears for a short time and then vanishes. 15 You ought to say instead,[i] “If the Lord is willing, then we will live and do this or that.” 16 But as it is,[j] you boast about your arrogant plans.[k] All such boasting is evil. 17 So whoever knows what is good to do[l] and does not do it is guilty of sin.[m]
