Version
Isaiah 64:1-9

64 (63:19b)[a] If only you would tear apart the sky[b] and come down!
The mountains would tremble[c] before you!
(64:1) As when fire ignites dry wood,
or fire makes water boil,
let your adversaries know who you are,[d]
and may the nations shake at your presence!
When you performed awesome deeds that took us by surprise,[e]
you came down, and the mountains trembled[f] before you.
Since ancient times no one has heard or perceived,[g]
no eye has seen any God besides you,
who intervenes for those who wait for him.
You assist[h] those who delight in doing what is right,[i]
who observe your commandments.[j]
Look, you were angry because we violated them continually.
How then can we be saved?[k]
We are all like one who is unclean,
all our so-called righteous acts are like a menstrual rag in your sight.[l]
We all wither like a leaf;
our sins carry us away like the wind.
No one invokes[m] your name,
or makes an effort[n] to take hold of you.
For you have rejected us[o]
and handed us over to our own sins.[p]
Yet,[q] Lord, you are our father.
We are the clay, and you are our potter;
we are all the product of your labor.[r]
Lord, do not be too angry!
Do not hold our sins against us continually.[s]
Take a good look at your people, at all of us.[t]

Psalm 80:1-7

Psalm 80[a]

For the music director, according to the shushan-eduth style;[b] a psalm of Asaph.

80 O Shepherd of Israel, pay attention,
you who lead Joseph like a flock of sheep.
You who sit enthroned above the cherubim,[c] reveal your splendor.[d]
In the sight of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh reveal[e] your power.
Come and deliver us.[f]
O God, restore us.
Smile on us.[g] Then we will be delivered.[h]
O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies,[i]
how long will you remain angry at your people while they pray to you?[j]
You have given them tears as food;[k]
you have made them drink tears by the measure.[l]
You have made our neighbors dislike us,[m]
and our enemies insult us.
O God of Heaven’s Armies,[n] restore us.
Smile on us.[o] Then we will be delivered.[p]

Psalm 80:17-19

17 May you give support to the one you have chosen,[a]
to the one whom you raised up for yourself.[b]
18 Then we will not turn away from you.
Revive us and we will pray to you.[c]
19 O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies,[d] restore us.
Smile on us.[e] Then we will be delivered.[f]

1 Corinthians 1:3-9

Grace and peace to you[a] from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

Thanksgiving

I always thank my God for you because of the grace of God that was given to you in Christ Jesus. For you were made rich[b] in every way in him, in all your speech and in every kind of knowledge[c] just as the testimony about Christ has been confirmed among you— so that you do not lack any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation[d] of our Lord Jesus Christ. He[e] will also strengthen you to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into fellowship with his son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Mark 13:24-37

The Arrival of the Son of Man

24 “But in those days, after that suffering,[a] the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light; 25 the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.[b] 26 Then everyone[c] will see the Son of Man arriving in the clouds[d] with great power and glory. 27 Then he will send angels and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.[e]

The Parable of the Fig Tree

28 “Learn this parable from the fig tree: Whenever its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also you, when you see these things happening, know[f] that he is near, right at the door. 30 I tell you the truth,[g] this generation[h] will not pass away until all these things take place. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.[i]

Be Ready!

32 “But as for that day or hour no one knows it—neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son[j]—except the Father. 33 Watch out! Stay alert![k] For you do not know when the time will come. 34 It is like a man going on a journey. He left his house and put his slaves[l] in charge, assigning[m] to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to stay alert. 35 Stay alert, then, because you do not know when the owner of the house will return—whether during evening, at midnight, when the rooster crows, or at dawn— 36 or else he might find you asleep when he returns suddenly. 37 What I say to you I say to everyone: Stay alert!”
