Psalm 23

Psalm 23[a]

A psalm of David.

23 The Lord is my shepherd,[b]
I lack nothing.[c]
He takes me to lush pastures,[d]
he leads me to refreshing water.[e]
He restores my strength.[f]
He leads me down[g] the right paths[h]
for the sake of his reputation.[i]
Even when I must walk through the darkest valley,[j]
I fear[k] no danger,[l]
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff reassure me.[m]
You prepare a feast before me[n]
in plain sight of my enemies.
You refresh[o] my head with oil;
my cup is completely full.[p]
Surely your goodness and faithfulness[q] will pursue[r] me all my days,[s]
and I will live in[t] the Lord’s house[u] for the rest of my life.[v]

Isaiah 22:1-8

The Lord Will Judge Jerusalem

22 This is an oracle[a] about the Valley of Vision:[b]
What is the reason[c]
that all of you go up to the rooftops?
The noisy city is full of raucous sounds;
the town is filled with revelry.[d]
Your slain were not cut down by the sword;
they did not die in battle.[e]
[f] All your leaders ran away together—
they fled to a distant place;
all your refugees[g] were captured together—
they were captured without a single arrow being shot.[h]
So I say:
“Don’t look at me![i]
I am weeping bitterly.
Don’t try[j] to console me
concerning the destruction of my defenseless people.”[k]
For the Sovereign[l] Lord of Heaven’s Armies,
has planned a day of panic, defeat, and confusion.[m]
In the Valley of Vision[n] people shout[o]
and cry out to the hill.[p]
The Elamites picked up the quiver,
and came with chariots and horsemen;[q]
the men of Kir[r] prepared[s] the shield.[t]
Your very best valleys were full of chariots;[u]
horsemen confidently took their positions[v] at the gate.
They[w] removed the defenses[x] of Judah.
At that time[y] you looked
for the weapons in the House of the Forest.[z]

1 Peter 5:1-5

Leading and Living in God’s Flock

So as your fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings and as one who shares in the glory that will be revealed, I urge the elders among you: Give a shepherd’s care to[a] God’s flock among you, exercising oversight[b] not merely as a duty[c] but willingly under God’s direction,[d] not for shameful profit but eagerly. And do not lord it over[e] those entrusted to you,[f] but be examples to the flock. Then[g] when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that never fades away.

In the same way, you who are younger,[h] be subject to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.[i]

1 Peter 5:12-14

Final Greetings

12 Through Silvanus,[a] whom I know to be a faithful brother,[b] I have written to you briefly, in order to encourage you and testify[c] that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it.[d] 13 The church[e] in Babylon,[f] chosen together with you,[g] greets you, and so does Mark, my son. 14 Greet one another with a loving kiss.[h] Peace to all of you who are in Christ.[i]
