Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
7 (A)“So you, (B)son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. (C)Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 8 (D)If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, (E)and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, (F)that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 9 (G)But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, (H)that person shall die in his iniquity, (I)but you will have delivered your soul.
Why Will You Die, Israel?
10 “And you, (J)son of man, say to the house of Israel, Thus have you said: ‘Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and (K)we rot away because of them. (L)How then can we live?’ 11 Say to them, (M)As I live, declares the Lord God, (N)I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; (O)turn back, turn back from your evil ways, (P)for why will you die, O house of Israel?
He
33 (A)Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes;
and I will keep it (B)to the end.[a]
34 (C)Give me understanding, that I may keep your law
and observe it with my whole heart.
35 (D)Lead me in the path of your commandments,
for I (E)delight in it.
36 (F)Incline my heart to your testimonies,
and not to (G)selfish gain!
37 (H)Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things;
and (I)give me life in your ways.
38 (J)Confirm to your servant your promise,
(K)that you may be feared.
39 Turn away the (L)reproach that I dread,
for your rules are good.
40 Behold, I (M)long for your precepts;
(N)in your righteousness give me life!
Fulfilling the Law Through Love
8 (A)Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for (B)the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, (C)“You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: (D)“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore (E)love is the fulfilling of the law.
11 Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you (F)to wake from sleep. (G)For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 12 (H)The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us (I)cast off (J)the works of darkness and (K)put on the armor of light. 13 (L)Let us walk properly as in the daytime, (M)not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, (N)not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But (O)put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, (P)to gratify its desires.
If Your Brother Sins Against You
15 (A)“If your brother sins against you, (B)go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have (C)gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established (D)by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, (E)tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, (F)let him be to you as (G)a Gentile and (H)a tax collector. 18 Truly, I say to you, (I)whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed[a] in heaven. 19 Again I say to you, if two of you (J)agree on earth about anything they ask, (K)it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are (L)gathered in my name, (M)there am I among them.”
